“Bad Santa” free screening

7 pm Sat, Dec 8, Freeport Factory Stage, Freeport

Everybody loves Santa. We get it.

Maybe it’s all that joy he brings to kids all over the world. Or whatever.

It’s not that anyone has a problem with all the gift-bestowing and jolly. That stuff is actually pretty wonderful. But it kind of makes the rest of us look bad.

What we need this time of year, as we hang out in Santa’s do-gooder shadow, is something to make us feel better about our own do-gooderness in the same way TV shows about people eat drywall makes us feel better about our not-so-crazyness.

I think Billy Bob Thornton can help.

His version of the big guy in the red suit isn’t quite so altruistic. In fact, he steals stuff rather than giving it away in the 2003 holiday flick “Bad Santa.” He also shows up to work drunk, smokes, swears, and has a tendency to womanizes (starting to feel better already, right?).

To help us all appreciate the holidays – and maybe get a renewed sense of our own
benevolence – Freeport Factory Stage will be screening free Christmas movies all day on Saturday. And during the final film – “Bad Santa” at 7 pm – attendees will have the opportunity to purchase drinks. The grown-up kind.

Seating is first come, first served, but prime seating can be reserved for a donation that will be divided between Freeport USA and the Freeport Community Services Food Pantry.

Complete free-movie schedule:
12 pm: The Polar Express
1:55 pm: The Grinch Who Stole Christmas
2:30 pm: The Muppet Christmas Carol
4:05 pm: A Charlie Brown Christmas
4:45 pm: Elf
7:00 pm: Bad Santa (18+ event)

The day of free movies is part of Freeport’s Sparkle Weekend, which includes a parade of lights, a talking Christmas tree, and other holiday-centric activities.
