A dozen awards were given to athletes from across Maine at the Varsity Maine Awards–#VMEA17–at the University of Southern Maine on May 2. Dozens of nominees were honored at a high-energy celebration and swag bags from Olympia Sports. The winning athletes, teams, coaches and fans going home with custom Winterstick snowboards. “Male Athlete of the Year” went to Austin Lufkin of Brewer High School for his achievements in football and track, while “Female Athlete of the Year” went to Lily Posternak of York High School for her achievements in field hockey and basketball.
