Island Independence: Music & fireworks at Chebeague Chebang July 5

Written by: Shannon Bryan

Independence takes to the islands this July, when the 3rd annual Chebeague Chebang brings an all-day party (with fireworks!) to Chebeague Island i Casco Bay on July 5. Sure, you will have seen plenty of fireworks by then, what with the 4th of July the day before. And maybe you also have a firework-obsessed uncle who likes to explode things in the yard for weeks leading up to Independence Day, and weeks after. But I digress. The Chebeague Chabang party, hosted by Chebeague Island Inn, runs from 4-10 pm Friday, July 5 (rain date July 6) and includes a day of live music from Lyle Divinsky and The Model Airplane, The Ghost of Paul Revere, Dominic Lavoie, North of Nashville, Joe Gallant Band, and others.

There will be food: Burgers, lobster rolls, hot dogs, Basket Island oysters, and other picnic favorites. And there will be beer, wine, mixed drinks, and non-alcoholic beverages. As for entertainment, things remain wonderfully old school: Yard games, dunk tank, sack races, and an art fair. And this year’s Chebang benefits The Chebeague Recreation Center.

Chebeague Island Inn will offer complimentary charter service to and from Portland. The charter will leave en route to Chebeague Island at 3 pm and depart for Portland again just after the fireworks finish at 10 pm. Reserve your spot on the charter:

General Admission Tickets are $25 per person, with no charge for kids under 10 years old. Tickets:

And hey, if you want to make a weekend of it, the Chebeague Island Inn has a Chebeague Weekend Package:
