The new Clash of the Titans season kicks off at Empire in Portland tonight

We are really doing it to it and getting right after it this week as it’s already Wednesday and I feel absolutely a-okay with that fact! I also feel more than a-okay about the amount of awesome stuff happening all around town and beyond so let’s get out there and do this thing, shall we?

The 6th Annual Portland Phoenix Best Of Awards will be happening at Port City Music Hall on Congress Street tonight to help celebrate this year’s readers’ choices for the Best Of Portland in more than 100 different categories. Tonight’s event starts right around 6:30 and will feature free food from The Black Tie Company, beer specials from Baxter Brewing, and musical performances from local rockabilly act Pete Witham & The Cozmik Zombies as well as funk-infused electro dance beats from Altered Gee. Celebrate all things Portland at this free and fun midweek shindig.

Local bluegrass duo Darlin’ Corey will be serving up some good times and good tunes this Wednesday at Gather in Yarmouth. Starting at 6:30 you can check out the act’s delightful blend of vocal harmonies accompanied by fiddle, banjo, mandolin and guitars to create a unique version of bluegrass, old time, folk and original songs.

Guitar player and all around nice guy Dave Jacquet, of local duo Uke n’ Smile, will hosting yet another free open mic event up at Cole Farms in Gray. Starting right around 7 all musicians are welcome to join in on the fun and make some music on stage with Dave and a few of his friends as they share songs and stories all evening long!

Irish Twins Pub and local musician Matt Fournier invite you to check out their Ride Your Bike to Open Mic event that will happen each and every Wednesday of the summer. Ride your motorcycle to open mic and be entered to win a $25 gift certificate to L/A Harley. This promotion takes place all summer long during Matt’s acoustic open mic, which gets underway at 8 this evening.

Frontier in Brunswick’s Live in the Lounge free music series continues on tonight as they welcome The Peter Herman Trio to the stage for a night of entertainment that begins at 8. Peter Herman is a local guitarist who will be bringing together some of the area’s finest musicians for creative, spontaneous interpretations of familiar (and some not-so-familiar) jazz tunes.

Check out some down home, acoustic roots music to wind down with this Wednesday over at Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street in downtown Portland where local act David Beam and The Custom House will be playing a free show beginning at 8.

Down at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port check out the Squid Jiggers as the duo plays some fun folk songs that pair perfectly with an ice cold pint of beer. These two fellas will get the good times rolling around 8 o’clock.

Flask Lounge on Spring Street in Portland pondered: why not throw in a Wednesday night dance party? And I think their answer is absolutely the best one out there, which is to host a free midweek dance party that starts a 9 featuring DJ Cedar, Draw Limit, Adult Situations and Frost Breaks.

Rap Night, hosted by ill by instinct and El Shupacabra, will be making some noise at The Asylum in Portland this Wednesday as they showcase another full evening of some the best hip-hop around. Starting at 9 you can peep sets from Tri-State TitansShadow Rhythmic, and Dirty Durdie. There’s never a cover charge for the ladies and only a $3 entrance fee for the fellas. Don’t forget to get there early and hang out late for the open mic cyphers that kick things off and round things out tonight.

The Clash of the Titans returns with a brand new season of mash ups tonight at Empire on Congress Street in Portland as Pearl Jam takes on Stone Temple Pilots for an epic battle of the 90s alternative rock bands. Local musicians from local acts like Theodore Treehouse, Bass Box, Forget, Forget, Whale Oil, When Particles Collide, Loverless and more will be joining forces on stage to bring these two alt-rock powerhouses’ jams to life beginning at 9:30 this Wednesday.
