Like a version…ALP heads under the covers for some favorites

Something, and I haven’t the foggiest idea what, got me thinking about cover songs the other day. I started thinking about how, in some cases, I even like the cover better than the original.

I’ve rounded up some of my favorite covers and invite you to think about some of your own while you lend an ear to these.

“American Tune” by Paul Simon. Covered by Indigo Girls

American Tune lyrics

“Stolen Car” by Bruce Springsteen. Covered by Patty Griffin

“You Got the Silver” by The Rolling Stones. Covered by Susan Tedeschi

“A Case of You” by Joni Mitchell. Covered by Tori Amos

A Case of You lyrics

“Comfortably Numb” by Pink Floyd. Covered by Dar Williams & Ani DiFranco

“Time” by Pink Floyd. Covered (and amazingly re-imagined) by Mary Fahl

“Femme Fatale” by The Velvet Underground & Nico. Covered by R.E.M.

“Mad World” by Tears for Fears. Covered by Gary Jules

“Across the Universe” by The Beatles. Covered by Fiona Apple

“Tears of a Clown” by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles. Covered by The English Beat

“Everybody Knows” by Leonard Cohen. Covered by Concrete Blonde
