The Oratorio Chorale and the Maine Chamber Ensemble, under the direction of Emily Isaacson, will celebrate Bach’s birthday with “The Best of Bach” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Cathedral Church of St. Luke in Portland; and at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 1, at St. John the Baptist Church in Brunswick.
The program will feature the choral work “Magnificant,” solo arias from three cantatas and other works. Instrumental pieces will include the Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 featuring Dean Stein and John Corrie. Robert Lehmann and Yasmin Vitalious will solo in Bach Double Violin Concerto.
Vocal soloists include soprano Sonja DuToit Tengbald, alto Emily Marvosh, tenor Stefan Reed and bass Bradford Gleim. Tengblad, Reed and Gleim were among the Conspirare singers on the CD “The Sacred Spirit of Russia” that won a 2015 Grammy Award for best choral performance.
