Planned Parenthood is getting into the art business. As part of Portland’s First Friday Art Walk, the Planned Parenthood of Northern New England office at 443 Congress Street (third floor) will show paintings, drawings and photographs made by three members of the Sanger family. “The Sangers – Artists and Rebels” features work from Margaret, William and Alexander Sanger. Margaret Sanger, who founded the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, painted watercolors of the American Southwest. Her husband, William, was a professional painter and architect and a frequent visitor to Maine. His paintings often reflect Maine scenes. Their grandson, Alexander, is past president of Planned Parenthood of New York City and he paints in Maine.
