Portland has no shortage of great vintage clothing. Moody Lord’s deserves to be right up there as one of the best shopping spots for vintage garb. Originally located on the second floor above Strange Maine, they’ve been in their new street level locale since last spring. If you happen to be a purveyor of great records and threads, you’ll find yourself in a shopping mecca.
While I made my way to the wall of sequin dresses, a few 80’s bathing suits and the occasional cat t-shirt, an amazing selection of records abound the rest of the store. It’s the perfect mix of retro in every way. And if you happen to ride around town in an 80’s volvo (I know many of you do…) they’ve even got a killer cassette selection. Long live tape decks!
Clothes fill the space but there’s also a nicely curated selection of shoes, jewelry and bags. The purveyors of Moody Lord’s either know what the people of Portland are wearing – or they’re dictating it. You’ll find lots of polyester tops from the 70’s, denim from the 80’s and some babydoll and crop tops from the 90’s. I spoke to Katrina, one of the shop owners, who told me there’s tons of warm-weather styles to come in anticipation of the growing summer crowds.
And if you happen to be a crazy cat lady like me, you’ll appreciate that they too have a love of felines. Though I don’t need another t-shirt with an image of kittens cuddling on it, this is the place I’d go if I was on the hunt. Cat lovers aside, I’ll be adding Moody Lords to my list of favorite shopping spots in town.
You can see what’s new in the store on their Facebook page.
