We’re right in the thick of winter and perhaps the worst is behind us. I’m getting tired of wearing sweaters and feel unwilling to be inventive with my outfits. I’m not yet excited for summer since its so far away which means bare legs and arms are also just a dream. So let’s brush off the winter blues and get creative! Who’s with me? Here’s some easy ways to break out of the seasonal slump.
1/ WEAR YOUR SUMMER CLOTHES
I’m not saying pull out your floral frocks and wear them like so:
But you can sport them as a layer. I’d take one of these dresses and toss a sweater on top and fleece-lined tights on the bottom and shazam! A new look that will help you find a sunny disposition even if its snowing out.
2/ HOST A SWAP PARTY AT HOME
If you’re sick of your own clothes, you might as well dig through your friends! Toss a few pieces of well-worn favorites into a pile, pop open a bottle of bubbly and have your friends over so you can shop each others closets. There’s nothing better than getting some free clothes!
3/ FIND A STYLE MUSE
Sometimes all it takes for me to figure out a great outfit is hitting up some street style blogs or pinterest. It even helps to search an item that you want to wear, but haven’t a clue how to rock it. I was perusing my closet the other day and realized I had bought a polka-dot blazer last spring and haven’t worn it since. A quick search on pinterest lead me to this outfit idea. Now I plan on pairing it with a band tee. I can feel the creative juices flowing already!
4/ INVEST IN A TEENY TWEAK
Changing up one thing in your daily uniform can make a big difference. Paint your nails gold! Wear a button-down tied over a dress! Pick up a pair of colored tights! Change the laces in your Bean Boots! A very small change can lift your style spirit.
5/ SUCK IT UP AND STOP POUTING
I’m really writing this tip as a reminder to myself. Imagine never being able to wear a chic wool coat or a cozy, oversized sweater? Sure, people in California have perfect weather EVERY DAY but do they get to change up their wardrobe seasonally? Nope. We’re lucky that we can change our closets with the seasons – even if it means freezing for a few months out of the year.
Any tips you want to share with the greater good? How are you keeping out of the wintry rut?
