Wine tastings: Try something new for the holidays

It’s no secret: we love wine any time. Well, any time after work. While we could always pour a glass at home and hang out on the couch, it’s especially nice to drink wine in a convivial atmosphere, try some new labels and learn a thing or two. Here are six Portland-area wine-tasting events where you can do just that.

Holiday Picks Wine Tasting

Taste a red and a white that the Old Port crew has selected for their own holiday tables.

Tandem Pairings IV: Wines and Food that say ‘Thanks’

Thursday, Nov. 21, 5-7pm
Tandem Coffee Roasters
122 Anderson Street, Portland
The fourth in a series of collaborative events by Rosemont Market and Tandem Coffee Roasters will feature wines — white, red, rosé and sparkling — that work beautifully with the multifaceted harvest-happy spread that we all look forward to on the fourth Thursday of November. Rosemont chef Brad Messier will prepare a host of small bites featuring both traditional and unconventional Thanksgiving-inspired foods. End the night with a nuanced coffee or espresso drink from the masters at Tandem Coffee.

Saturday, Nov. 23, 3-6pm, 580 Brighton Ave., Portland
Both of these tastings are devoted to the authentic, small-scale French wines from  Wine Traditions, a little-guy importer of special wines from France. Prices are low, the wines are fantastic. Wine Tradition’s Leigh Ranucci will be on hand to guide you through the good stuff.

Thanksgiving Wine Tasting – American Wines for an American Holiday

Hosted by Art Gonyea from National Distributors, the tasting will include Firesteed Pinot Gris, Ferrari-Carano Tre Terre Chardonnay, Conundrum White, Angelie Pinot Noir Reserve, Terra D Oro Zinfandel, 6th Sense Syrah and conundrum Red. All tasting wines will be 10 percent off the day of the tasting.

A Wine Walk in the Old Port: Big, Bold and Beautiful Reds

Erica Archer of Wine Wise leads a guided viticultural tasting and walking tour, which will explore this style of wine. Includes stops at restaurants — Old Port Sea Grill, The Salt Exchange, Zapoteca and Sonny’s — where the wines will be paired with food and the owners/chefs talk with the group/
