Oxbow Winter Classic

It is hard to beat an afternoon of hockey, bonfires, beer and general camaraderie. Saturday brewers and staff from Allagash Brewing Company, Portsmouth Brewing Company, Smuttynose Brewing Company joined Oxbow Brewing at their brewery in Newcastle for some good old-fashioned pond hockey. The sun made an appearance for most of the afternoon – and comments about the warm above 30 degree temperatures were heard.

The tap room was open, Hella Good Tacos was on hand to keep people fed, and it was pretty much the most fun I’ve had on a Saturday in years. Some well-known faces in the brewery community made an appearance, including Tod Mott (formerly of the Portsmouth brewery, and spearheading a brewery in planning), Rob Todd (Allagash) and Chris Shea (Henniker Brewing).

Using their home turf to their advantage, Oxbow was able to pull out a tight but solid victory – and all the teams vowed to make this an annual tradition. I can not wait for next year.
