Chef Shannon Bard competes on ‘Beat Bobby Flay’ April 10

That Shannon Bard is one busy woman. Raising four kids with her husband, Tom, running two restaurants — Zapoteca in Portland and Mixteca in Durham, N.H. — working on opening a tapas restaurant, Toroso, also in Portland, cooking at the James Beard House and soon, showing her chef chops on a new Food Network show, “Beat Bobby Flay.” The show makes its debut tonight at 10 pm and Bard’s episode, titled “Up in Smoke!” airs on Thursday, April 10.

In Round One, she’ll be competing against chef Kamal Rose of Tribeca Grill in New York City, using an ingredient of Flay’s choice. The episode’s special guests — celebrity chef Michael Symon and comedian Ali Wentworth will decide which of the two chefs they believe can defeat Flay. In Round Two, the winning chef battles Flay with a “distinct advantage,” according to the press release. “The challenger makes their signature dish, which will not be revealed to Bobby until the beginning of the round, and he must immediately come up with his own version. A judging panel then determines the winner based on a blind taste test.”

Did Shannon beat Kamal, and then Bobby? We’ll have to wait to find out.
