This year’s Maine Madness Beer Tournament was a smashing success, and it’s all thanks to the talented brewers making beer up and down the Pine Tree State and the passionate craft beer lovers who rocked the vote. Over the six rounds, twenty-five breweries were represented and more than 4,000 votes were cast.

And now it’s official: Rising Tide’s Maine Island Trail Ale has successfully defended its crown as the winner of the second annual Maine Madness Beer Tournament by defeated Maine Beer Company’s Lunch.

MITA, as it is affectionately known to beer lovers, is an American Ale brewed with Citra and Simcoe hops. It has a brilliant hop presence without being an overpowering hop bomb. Its 4.3% abv content along with being packaged in 16 oz. cans make it the perfect companion for a summer’s day. From aroma to flavor to finish, this beer is a well-balanced, deserved champion.

As fate would have it, MITA is being canned this week by Rising Tide Brewing Company on Fox St. in Portland. Go get some. Now.

It has been officially decided by the staff here at the Maine Madness Beer Tournament that it is only right to retire a champion after it has been crowned. Therefore, MITA will be retired to the hallowed annuls of our beloved tournament. The Maine Madness Beer Tournament is a celebration of Maine’s lush beer-scape, and with over 60 breweries, we will not be short great beers to compete in each coming year.

Cheers to Rising Tide for the second victory, and cheers to Mainers for embracing all things beer!

See you next year. And as we like to say at the Maine Madness Beer Tournament: To Drink ME is to Love ME!
