Sunday River hosts queer ski weekend Feb 7-9; grab your glow sticks

Written by: Heather Steeves

Gay people will take over Sunday River Feb. 7-9 for what sounds like a raucous weekend with fireworks, zip lines, huge dance parties, heated pools and, yeah, probably some skiing. Organizers encourage skiers to bring their glow sticks and neon pants (as if you need a reminder).

Sunday River teamed up with DownEast Pride Alliance and OutRyders, a local LGBT ski/snowboarding club to throw the White Out Weekend for the fourth year.

Sure, maybe some straight people will show, but, as Sid Tripp at DownEast Pride Alliance says it: “gay people are going to take over the whole mountain and the whole town.” Not, like, violently with torches and pitchforks “take over the town,” but, the laser light shows and purple cocktails “take over.” Tripp guessed 55 percent of participants are gay men and 45 percent are lesbians.

For more information visit Sunday River’s White Out Weekend page.
And I’ll let the OutRyders have the last word:
