Bed races, chili challenge & some insane skiing: 5 things to do in maine this weekend
The temperature has gotten notably cooler lately. Thankfully, the events happening this weekend are a perfect blend of winter preparation and cold-weather management. If you're ready to embrace winter and all its snow (or you maybe need a little encouragement), check out Warren Miller's "Ticket to Ride" and get excited about playing in the white stuff. If you need tools to fend off the cold, look to the Chili and Chowder Challenge or learn to make mead (mead is also good at giving you that wonderful warm feeling inside). Wear your pajamas in public in Brunswick on Saturday and watch the annual bed races, or cozy up with a fine late-fall dinner at the beautiful Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. Read on

Beer hunt, tweed ride & Leatherface’s chili: 5 things to do in Maine this weekend
This weekend will be perfect for a beer scavenger hunt, because weekends are always a great time to hunt for beer. Portland Beer Week is coming to a close on Sunday, so check the schedule for all the weekend events. And remember, you can still drink beer the rest of the year, so all is not lost. There's a Tweed Ride, too, for those of us who are fond of fake British accents and wool, and a Medieval feast for folks who have a strong dislike for utensils. And comic fans shouldn't miss Comicon, or their chance to serve chili to Leatherface. Read on

Halloween, Maine beer & Carrie the Musical: 5 things to do in Maine this weekend
Halloween seems like the big player this weekend. And yes, you'll deck yourself out in some amazing creation that'll blow everyone's mind and maybe even win you some cash at one of the night's Halloween parties. But what happens the rest of the weekend? Will you be left to deal with your Halloween hangover and the leftovers of your costume until Monday morning arrives again? Heck no! There's plenty of joy to be had after Halloween. Portland Beer Week starts Friday and runs until Nov 10. Part of that "week" includes the Maine Brewers Festival this Saturday. There's also a chance to do go on Saturday (after all the bad you're going to do Thursday night) with the Cranksgiving bike race. And to keep things at least a little creepy, at least for a few extra days, "Carrie the Musical" performances happen all weekend. Read on

From candy to cocktails, M&Ms to malbec. Halloween is different as an adult.
