Written by: Holly Nunan

Starting things off today with a virtual high five that’s going out to each and every one of you for making it all the way to Wednesday! It’s never an easy task to propel yourself into real life after a holiday weekend, so big ups to you guys for making it this far. Celebrate hurdling the hump with some live, local music. If you’re looking to do it to it this evening, here’s where to hang!

Local, lovely siren Andi Fawcett goes solo and acoustic tonight for a free performance at Easy Day in South Portland. Usually you can catch Andi fronting such acts at Doubting Gravity and Sly-Chi, but tonight she strips down her own original songs for a fun show that gets underway at 6 o’clock.

It should be another beautiful summer evening out on the Portland Lobster Company deck where Captain Ray and the Castaways will keep you dancing all evening long with some rock and/or roll. This free party starts at 6 so check it out if you’re in the area this Wednesday evening.

The 2014 Summer Concerts at Mill Creek Park in South Portland is proud to present The Veayo Twins, Katherine and Kristen, alongside special guest musician Carter Isaac for a free trio performance out in the park this Wednesday evening. Starting at 6:30 enjoy some original tunes from these talented ladies (and gent) as they seamlessly touch upon such genres as country, pop, rock, jazz and more. This is event is free, all ages and bound to be a lot of fun, so don’t miss out – grab some friends, a blanket, some snacks and get cozy this Wednesday evening!

Powerhouse singer-songwriter and performer Matt Andersen, who is considered one of Canada’s most revered acts on the scene today, will be playing live in Prescott Park in Portsmouth, NH as part of the outdoor venue’s summer concert series. The blues guitarist will deliver his diverse musical styles, skilled guitar work and high energy live set at tonight’s event, which gets underway at 7pm with a suggested entrance donation of $8-10.

The lively bunch will be playing some great music for your midweek wind down so swing through to this free show starting at 8 o’clock.

Over at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port you can check out another fun evening of folk tunes with local duo the Squid Jiggers. This talented duo will be creating sounds that pair perfectly with an ice cold pint of beer, so swing on by and check ‘em out if you’re in the Old Port tonight.

The lovely and talented Colleen Clark will be joining forces with the equally as lovely and talented Kyle Friday on keys for an evening of swanky jazz down at MJ’s Wine Bar in downtown Portland. The duo will be serving up a dosage of sophistication with some soulful sounds as you sit back, relax, and enjoy some delicious drinks in an awesome space. Let Colleen serenade you at this free show, which gets underway right around 8 o’clock this Wednesday evening.

San Francisco indie rock act Nouveau-Expo will be making a pit stop in Portland as part of their Northeast tour with a free, live show at Flask Lounge on Spring Street. The outdoor concerts will be held around the city throughout the months of July and August. The events are all ages and absolutely free. Don’t miss the kick off with some finely crafted Americana folk rock tunes courtesy of Gunther Brown starting right around 8 o’clock.

It’s the second Wednesday of the month, so that means you can catch local rockabilly extraordinaire Pete Witham hosting another free open mic night down at The Frog and Turtle on Main Street in Westbrook.  Starting at 8 you can sign up to play some tunes or just sit back and check out Pete and his pals as they perform throughout the course of the evening.

The trio will present a full evening of classical and modern music like you’ve never heard before starting at 8 o’clock as part of tonight’s free show.

If you missed King Buzzo, of sludge punk/metal act the Melvins, during his solo acoustic performance in Portland on Monday, you can check out another New England gig as he is slated to take the stage of the Dover Brickhouse in Dover, NH this Wednesday evening. The set, which is described by Buzzo himself as not folk or heavy metal music, but molk, will start after tonight’s opener Emma Ruth Rundle kicks things off right around 9.

All kinds of jamming will be going on tonight as Zach Deputy returns to Portland to take to the stage of Port City Music Hall on Congress Street for a full night of funk, soul and, of course, straight up jams.  Deputy will appeal to any of you cats that dig Jack Johnson and Amos Lee, so if that sounds like your style, then make your way over to Port City right around 9 tonight.

If you’re up in the Boothbay Harbor region tonight check out a free rock n’ roll show at Mine Oyster featuring local rockers Tilden Katz. Tonight’s event is free of any cover charge and certain to be a lot of fun, so scope things out starting at 9 this Wednesday.

Blueprint and Count Bass D drop into Rap Night at The Asylum in Portland this Wednesday as part of their Respect the Architect Tour. Things get jumpin’ around 9 with performances from Blueprint, Count Bass D, and DJ Rare Groove. There’ll be an opening set by God.Damn. Chan as well as open mic cyphers with Ill By Instinct and El Shupacabra to open and close the night. If you’re looking to bob your head to some enticing rhymes and super beats, then make your way out to this happening midweek party.

Celebrate hurdling the hump with some super yacht rock at this week’s Clash of the Titans upstairs at the Empire in Portland as two classic acts go song for song during this week’s battle. Listen to the Music and Don’t Lose That Number or else you may suffer from the Deacon Blues while Livin’ On The Fault Line as Steely Dan takes on The Doobie Brothers tonight starting at 9:30.
