Ween takes on Cake at this week’s Clash of the Titans at Empire

Happy Hump Day, you guys! It almost feels as if we’re flyin’ right on into the freakin’ weekend and I am absofrickinlutely fine with that! Let’s get this party started by checking out what’s up for this Wednesday.

Local folk artist Sammie Francis will be providing some delightful dinnertime tunes at Gather in Yarmouth this Wednesday evening. Sammie will begin playing tonight’s free all-ages show right around 6:30.


Handshakes, Songs, and Dances string quartets by John Adas, Dan Visconti, and Scott Ordway will be live at SPACE Gallery in Portland tonight. Beginning at 7, join the Portland Chamber Music Festival for an evening of chamber music as they pick up where they left off after last year’s wildly successful events, tonight’s concert features an intimate, laid back atmosphere and programming that explores dynamic new music in various forms.

Local singer-songwriter Dan Knudsen will be performing a free, all ages set at the Dogfish Bar & Grille on Free Street in Portland during the venue’s open mic event. Stop by for some good eats, good times, and good tunes, which will get underway right around 7 o’clock.


The Songwriters in the Round showcase returns to Frontier in Brunswick this Wednesday with music from some of Maine’s most talented artists. Starting at 7, Lisa Redfern brings some local singer-songwriters together for an intimate, unplugged performance of compelling songs and stories. Tonight’s line up will feature f Dave Dersham, Jenny Van West, and Stan Davis.

Local guitarist, singer, and songwriter, Dave Jacquet will be back to host another free open mic night at Cole Farms in Gray this Wednesday. Beginning at 7:30 all musicians are welcome to join in on the fun with Dave and a few of his friends as they share songs and stories all night long.


Bull Feeney’s on Fore Street in the Old Port welcomes back local duo the Squid Jiggers to the stage. The pair will be playing their own original brand of folk-infused drinking tunes starting right around 8 this Wednesday. There’s never, ever a cover charge and also never, ever a shortage of cold beer, so make some moves and check ‘em out this evening.


The Frog and Turtle in Westbrook welcomes back local blues man, Ron Gill for another blues-based open mic event. Tonight’s free, open mic-style party gets underway at 8.


Wind up your Wednesday with some acoustic roots tunes courtesy of David Beam and The Custom House Gang as the local act plays a free show at Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street tonight. These fellas will get the good times rolling starting right around 8 o’clock.


Rap Night returns to the Asylum in Portland tonight with showcases of the best local hip-hop artists and producers around. Every week Ill By Instinct and El Shupacabra team up to host this hip-hop heavy party that features some of the dopest emcees and DJs around. Things get fresh starting at 9, so head downtown and check it out.


The Clash of the Titans continues upstairs at the Empire in Portland tonight as this week’s battle pits Ween against Cake for a battle of post-modern alt-rockers. Tonight’s performance will feature members from such local acts as Worried Well, The Aquanauts, Forget, Forget, KGFREEZE, Whale Oil, Sly-Chi and more. Tonight’s rock and roll rumble gets underway right around 9:30.
