Van Morrison takes on Ray Lamontagne for this week’s Clash at Empire

It’s time to power up and power through another Wednesday, babies! There’s a plethora of musical performances to take in tonight, so hike up those Party Pants and get ready to work it on out this evening.

Should you decide to get downright jazzy this Wednesday then make sure you hit tonight’s early show at Gingko Blue on Fore Street in Portland where Standard Issue will be playing all of the classics from the Great American Songbook. Tonight’s show is free and gets started right around 7, so swing by, enjoy a cocktail and take in some golden era tunes.

Another spot to hit this evening is The Big Easy in Portland where every Wednesday local blues act Poke Chop and the Other White Meats host a blues jam that’s open to musicians and music lovers alike. If you’re a player, come to play; if you’re a blues lover, come to listen, to dance, and to hang out in a friendly down-to-earth atmosphere and hear some of the best blues around without a cover charge. Things get shaking right around 7.

Pride Portland invites one and all to Styxx in Portland for an all night dance party featuring DJ Cherry Lemonade as well as special performances from Shaunna Rai, Vanilla Honey-Bush, Stripwrecked Burlesque and more. All tips and 15% of all bar sales will be donated to Pride Portland, which is an annual celebration of Portland’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and allied community that happens every 3rd week of June.

Down at Bull Feeney’s on Fore Street the Squid Jiggers return with their own brand of folk music that’s perfectly paired with a tall pint of beer. Tonight the fellas will get the party started with a free show that gets started at 8 o’clock this Wednesday.

The Little Tap House on Spring Street in Portland continues its acoustic music series this Wednesday evening with some songs courtesy of local songstress Clara Junken. The lovely and talented Ms. Junken will be performing a solo set of songs starting right around 8, so swing through and check her out!

Frontier in Brunswick presents a new entertainment series set in their lounge that’ll take place on various Wednesday evenings in the hopes to bring a senses of relaxation to your mid-week. This Wednesday they welcome producer and DJ Mosart212 to the lounge for some of his improvised sets that feature a blend of original tracks, dusty samples and rare gems. Music ranges from classic to funky to downright wonky so check out Mosart212 as things get started at 8 o’clock.

If you’re looking for some open mic action in Portland tonight, then head over to Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge on Preble Street where you can check out local artists as they do their thing or you can even sign up to play some songs of your own. Every Wednesday starting at 8, local singer-songwriter Nick Poulin of the band Tall Horse hosts this free and fun event, so grab your guit and get to it this evening.

Acoustic duo, Uke n’ Smile, will be hosting their monthly open mic night down at the Frog & Turtle in Westbrook this evening. Starting right around 8, all musicians of all musical capabilities are welcome to play some tunes during tonight’s event. Tonight’s open mic is free and definitely a lot of fun, so be sure to stop on by if you’re hanging in The ‘Brook this evening.

If you’re north of Portland and hanging around the Lewiston area, make your way to Irish Twins Pub for this Wednesday’s open mic night with local singer-songwriter Matt Fournier. Grab your guitar and get ready to play some tunes and have some fun as the event gets underway at 8.

Local singer-songwriter Brian Patricks will be joining forces with bassist Damon Holman to bring their acoustic rock and blues duo, Cayden’s Call, to life on the stage of RiRa in downtown Portland this evening. Check out these fellas as they get things going right around 8:30 this Wednesday.

Unnoticed Architects (Tony Dolo and DJ Rew) will be taking to the stage of The Asylum this Wednesday to celebrate their new EP with a party at Rap Night. The duo have been working on new songs for a little over a year and are ready to show ‘em off with a showcase at tonight’s event. Shane Reis and Ock Cousteau will be helping to set things off alongside Boondocks who will be holding down the turntables all night long. Rap Night gets underway right around 9.

Geno’s is geared up for a mid-week rock show as they welcome Portland’s own 2-piece rock n’ roll act Ace Galloper to the stage alongside Texas act Acid Smoker and Max & The Dads for what’s certain to be a smashing Wednesday night party. Things get crankin’ right around 9 o’clock.

Empire in Portland hosts another edition of the Clash of the Titans this week as two soulful singers go head-to-head for this week’s battle. Starting at 9:30 Ray Lamontagne takes on Van Morrison as the duo trades songs to determine a Clash winner for the week. Members of various local acts such as ShaShaSha, Mama’s Boomshack, Forget, Forget, Mother Leopard and more will come together to pay tribute to each of these talented singer-songwriters, so swing through and check it out.
