Tons of talent at tonight's Songwriters in the Round at The Frontier Cafe

All right, Wednesday, you’ve really gotta bring it tonight because we’re only half way through this week and I almost feel like I’m not going to make it to Friday. Thankfully it looks like you’ve got a few tricks up your sleeve, so I’m gonna hike up these Party Pants and give everyone something to talk about via my uncomfortably awkward dance moves. Let’s do this.

Gingko Blue on Fore Street in Portland invites one and all to come on in this Wednesday for some stellar sounds courtesy of Octane. Octane is a group of individuals brought together by local musician Mike James Hayward to recreate jazz and swing standards through Hayward’s own unique interpretation of the genre. There’s never a cover charge, so check ‘em out right around 6:30 this evening.

If you’re hanging out south of Portland tonight be sure to check out an awesome open mic night that’s happening at Bentley’s Saloon on Route One in Arundel. Tonight Ali & Nat Bailey and the Open Mic Night Band invite you on to the stage to perform some tunes. If you can’t play an instrument, fret not (ha! pun intended), as the Open Mic Night Band is on hand to back you up and make you sound like a true rockstar.

The Songwriters in the Round showcase is back at the Frontier Café in Brunswick with an evening of music from some of Maine’s most prolific talent. Beginning at 7, Lisa Redfern brings some talented Maine songwriters to the stage to perform in an intimate unplugged setting in Frontier’s theatre for a night of compelling songs and stories. Tonight’s line up features performances from Brian Patricks, Michelle Lewis, and Aaron Nadeau.

If you’re out and about in the Old Port tonight swing on over to RiRa on Commercial Street where Mitch Alden will be performing. Mitch Aldren is the creative force behind alternative rock band, Now is Now, so stop by and check out his solo set, which starts right around 8:30pm.

If you’re looking to thrash it out tonight to some of the heaviest sounds Portland has to offer, then I would suggest checking out tonight’s all ages show down at the Prime Artist Studios on Thompsons Point in Portland. Starting at 8:30 you can check out skull crushing sets from Sylvia, Iron Lung, Ultra//Negative and Eastern Spell.

Local hip-hop-ist, God.Damn.Chan celebrates the release of his latest album, Diamonds with a raging party at The Big Easy in Portland for this week’s Rap Night, hosted by Ill By Instinct and El Shupacabra. Tonight’s event gets underway right around 9 and will feature performances by 32French, Mike Clouds, and Don Damiani.
