The Running Gags & The Ghost of Paul Revere team up for a First Friday free-for-all at The Big Easy

Ohhh yeah, it’s Friday! Granted most of us had a three-day week at work, it still doesn’t make it any less nice to cozy on up to another weekend. And although most of the time I don’t like to be an enabler, I’m going to encourage all of you to bring the thunder doubly this evening because it’s the first Friday of the freakin’ New Year! I know a lot of you are probably considering hibernation with these cold temperatures hanging around, but may I remind you that the party stops for no one and that you are a Mainer, bub. You got this, a little brisk weather shouldn’t stop you from getting out and enjoying all of the sights and sounds a First Friday has to offer. So let’s hike up that long underwear, find those wool socks and tuck ‘em all strategically into our Party Pants because it’s time to FRIDAY!

Let’s get things started early this evening with a unique performance over at Local Sprouts on Congress Street in Portland where two talented indie soul/folk singers join forces for some tunes starting right around 5:30 tonight. This First Friday local talents Monique Barrett and Darrell Foster will be singing songs that are certain to please your earholes, so be sure to swing on by and check them out.

A rollicking good time breezes on through One Longfellow Square in Portland tonight as Massachusetts-based progressive string band Hot Day At The Zoo gets ready to make concert goers stomp their feet with a show that gets underway right around 8. Local roots/Americana favorites Dark Hollow Bottling Company will get things going, so stop by and warm up with some good tunes and good times tonight.

The folk, acoustic four-piece known as Yellow Roman Candles says goodbye for now with a show upstairs at Empire Dine and Dance in Portland. The act is calling it quits after four years together, but say so long with one final gig. Special guest Kelly Ravin of VT’s Waylon Speed will start things off with a solo set right around 9.

A big ol’ party is getting ready to rip on stage at The Big Easy on Market Street in Portland as The Running Gags and The Ghost of Paul Revere team up to bring you a night of boot-stompin’, rump-shakin’ music that gets underway right around 9 o’clock. Anticipate party rockin’ from The Gags and boot bustin’ from The Ghost.

Shake those extra holiday pounds off with an evening of some of the finest house and techno music over at Flask Lounge in Portland where tonight Jamie O’Sullivan will be hosting his monthly LOVE event. Things get started right around 9 with special guest London Water. It’s free, fun and funky so check it out.

Another place to bust a few moves this evening is at Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge on Preble Street in Portland where a free drum, bass and dubstep dance party will be taking place beginning right around 9.

Go on and get your 90s nostalgia on as Hello Newman prepares to party down at RiRa on Commercial Street tonight. Beginning at 9:30 the fellas will heat things up with everything from Sublime, Blink 182, Chumbawumba and more.

If you’re north of Portland tonight, check out some killer indie pop courtesy of Massachusetts’ The Brew over at Mainely Brews in Waterville. The fellas get the party started at 9 o’clock this Friday evening.
