The Nutopians re-imagine the music of John Lennon tonight at One Longfellow Square

It’s been a while (maybe, like a week?) and therefore I must say it: Holy Hannah Montana Miley Cyrus, it’s Friday! Oh man, that felt so good, but probably not as good as it’s going to feel once 5 o’clock hits and it’s time to put on the ol’ trusty Party Pants. I’m ready to Friday, are you? Let’s roll!

Kick start your weekend with an evening chock full of finely crafted Americana and folk tunes over at Blue on Congress Street in Portland where Gunther Brown will be taking to the stage for some good tmes and equally good tunes in this uniquely intimate setting. The fellas get things started this finally Friday evening right around 6 o’clock, so swing on by and check ‘em out.

If you’re north of Portland tonight don’t miss your chance to check out national folk act Arborea in particularly uncommon setting as they play in one of the most intriguing general stores in the state. Tonight Whitefield, Maine’s Sheepscot General Store celebrates the return of the weekend with this super cool show that will also feature Post Provost’s David Gagne and Saeko Nishimura as an opening act. Things get underway right around 6.

The County gets roots rocked this evening with a stupendous show up at the Eureka Hall Restaurant in Stockholm. Tonight Travis Cyr opens up the show with a set of solo acoustic tunes right around 6:30pm followed by featured act, Dark Hollow Bottling Company, who will be bringing their foot-stomping, Americana/roots jams to life all night long.

Mayo Street Arts Center presents an evening dedicated to the finer things in pyschedelic rock with a show that although toned down sound-wise to respect the venue’s intimate setting, will probably be amplified up with a ton of coolness as Theodore Treehouse, Jeff Beam and Tanner Smith join forces for a night of rock. Things get underway this evening right around 8pm.

A truly great show takes to the stage of One Longfellow Square tonight as The Nutopians pay tribute to the one and only John Lennon during their show entitled Lennon Re-Imagined: Beatles & Solo Years. Led by Rex Fowler of Aztex Two-Step and Tom Dean of Devensquare (also in the band is Devonsquare’s Alana MacDonald), the ensemble blasts through Lennon’s most poignant songs with beautiful ease and 3-part harmonies. I’d say this is a must for any John Lennon and/or Beatles nut. Things get underway tonight right around 8pm.

Take some time this Friday to check out some some soul courtesy of The ToneKings as Papa Phil Divinsky shows us all where offspring Lyle got all that crazy talent from by fronting this super fun local band down at The Frog & Turtle on Main Street in Westbrook tonight. The party starts right around 8:30.

Well, what a fine idea The Ghost of Paul Revere, Joe Gallant, and Cactus Attack have concocted for this Friday evening. Tonight these purveyors of roots rock invite one and all to their Whiskey Social at Empire Dine and Dance in Portland. Whiskey specials, dancing and music all night long gets underway upstairs right around 9.

Tonight’s show down at The Big Easy on Market Street is sure to have you yearning for warm, sunny days out by the ol’ Atlantic, taking in some smooth reggar sounds as local act Royal Hammer readies themselves for a full throttle Friday throwdown. Forget about the snow outside and prepare for warm, sunny days with some fine reggae that gets started right around 9 tonight.

If you find yourself in the Dover, NH area tonight and are looking to whip your hair back and forth to some high-energy, high-quality RnR then make your way down to Fury’s Publick House where Supermachine takes the stage alongside Mellow Bravo and The Screen. Things get cranking right around 9.

Shake your money maker down at Flask Lounge on Spring Street in Portland this Friday with a free dance party courtesy of DJs Leap, Mike Said and Moses. Rump shaking commences right around 9 o’clock.

If you’re up in Waterville and looking for some old timey, roots/bluegrass music, then head over to Mainely Brews where the Tricky Britches will be playing a set this evening. They’ll be serving up their own style of back porch jam session bluegrass starting right around 9:30pm.
