The London Souls lay down the rock n' roll with special guest Whale Oil at Port City Music Hall

It’s been a while, and therefore I must say it: Holy Hannah Montana Miley Cyrus, it’s Friday! Oh man, that felt so good, but probably not as good as it’s going to feel once 5 o’clock hits and it’s time to put on the ol’ trusty Party Pants. I’m ready to Friday, are you? Let’s roll!

Check out some roots rock for free this evening by heading over to the Dogfish Bar & Grill on Free Street in Portland where Travis James Humphrey will be playing a solo set starting right around the 5 o’clock hour. Humphrey has opened for such acts as B.B King, Ricky Scaggs and Bill Chinnock, so get your Friday night rollin’ at tonight’s free show.

Pop-rock act, Doubting Gravity’s front woman, Andi Fawcett goes solo tonight as she prepares to play a set of acoustic songs down at the Maine Table Restaurant on Main Street in South Portland. Andi will be providing a wonderful soundtrack to your early evening as tonight’s gig gets underway around 6.

Tremolino, a trio of Waldo Country musicians who perform the sounds of Portuguese Fado music, join up with dancer Shana Bloomstein for a special event at the Unity College Center for the Performing Arts, which will raise money for New Hope for Women, an organization that offers support for those affected by domestic violence. Starting at 7 you can enjoy the fiery, soulful folk style of the band whilst enjoying great food, drinks, and dances.

Local Sprouts on Congress Street in Portland presents a free Friday night show for you to enjoy as Pip Walter and Jenny Van West join musical forces as The Bloomers to play acoustic songs filled with voices, guitars, and fiddles. Tonight’s event gets underway at 7 o’clock.

Three of the brightest acts in the Maine folk music scene will be joining up to host a special show at the Atlantic Hall in Cape Porpoise this Friday evening. Expect old-time, bluegrass, Celtic and indie/folk as Darlin’ Corey, Brittany Haas, Owen Marshall, Joe Walsh, and The Coloradas take the stage starting at 7 o’clock for Winter Fest.

If you’re up in Brownfield tonight, be sure to check out a great show happening at The Stone Mountain Arts Center where Girls, Guns & Glory will rock you solid with their unique rockin’ country tunes. The fellas get things going right around 8.

A pretty neat night of (free) music will be happening at Bayside Bowl in Portland this finally Friday evening. Tonight Glass Fingers’ Jesse Gertz’ other musical project known as Leveret will be taking to the stage alongside fellow local acts from Starlight Cicada and Tall Horse. Things get underway at Bayside right around 8.

One Longfellow Square in Portland welcomes folk-rock act The Farewell Drifters this Friday evening. The Farewell Drifters combine Brian Wilson-like sensibilities into their intricately arrange harmonies and atmospheric tunes for an experience that is not to be missed. Tonight’s show begins at 8 o’clock.

Get ready to ring in the weekend with The Boneheads up at The Opera House in Boothbay Harbor.. This local act, which has become famous for their unpredictable, impressively musical shows, which often feature band members switching instruments, powerfully dynamic arrangements, and occasionally even hilarious polka versions of tunes, will take to the stage right around 8 o’clock. 

If you’re in Southern Maine this Friday, check out The Hive’s open mic night hosted by local singer-songwriter Lauryn Hottinger. Lauryn will be getting things going at this unique Kennebunk venue right around 8 o’clock.

Shanna Underwood and Wanderlost will be bringing some fine Americana music to the stage of Elements: Books Coffee Beer in Biddeford this evening. Starting at 8 Underwood joins forces with Devon Colella on cello, Drew Wyman on bass, and Greg Bjork on mandolin for some stellar musical sounds.

Guthries in Lewiston welcomes The Portland Rhumba Project to their stage this Friday evening for some live music. Starting at 8, these fellas will be performing classic radio hits from Zimbabwe and beyond. It’s free, fun and there’s plenty of delicious food and drinks to be had, so be sure to check it out.

Mystic Folk Opera strips down to duo form this evening for a fun Friday night show Andy’s Old Port Pub in Portland. Starting at 8 you can check out some soulful blues-rock from two of the act’s members.

Things are going to get wicked loud up at Tantrum in Bangor tonight, bub. Starting at 9 you can check out skull-rattling sets from Nobis, Seize the Vatican and Culling the Herd.

One of my favorite rock n’ roll acts returns to Portland tonight to play an energetic show at Port City Music Hall on Congress Street. Don’t miss The London Souls, who’ve toured with everyone from Tedeschi Trucks Band to the Black Crowes, as they rage out some old school rock n’ roll on stage alongside local garage rock act Whale Oil. The party starts right around 9 tonight, so be sure to swing through and check things out.

Portland’s own heavy garage rockers, The Coalsack in Crux celebrate the release of their new record The Border with a big ol’ rock n’ roll party at Urban Farm Fermentory on Anderson Street tonight. Indie electro-rockers, Video Nasties will opening things up as tonight’s show gets underway during the 9 o’clock hour.

Portland’s own 90s alternative rock cover band Hello Newman brings the party south this evening as they play a free show at The Brunswick in Old Orchard Beach. Get your fill of all things throwback starting at 9 o’clock this Friday.

Upstairs at the Empire on Congress Street in Portland you can check out The Penthouse Dance Party featuring the very best underground house, techno and dance music courtesy of DJs Ed Garrison, Marcus Caine, Christopher Gauthier, and Ian Hammond. Tonight’s event is absolutely free, features special guest Mr. Dereloid and gets crankin’ right around 9 o’clock.

Local folk artist Max Garcia Conover is hosting a free and fun event at the Lion’s Pride in Brunswick this Friday, Starting right around 9 o’clock Max will be joined by some of his musically-inclined pals to play some acoustic jams to ease you on into the weekend.

If you’re up in the Naples area tonight, be sure to make your way to Bray’s Brew Pub where two talented singer-songwriters will be performing this evening. Starting at 9 o’clock you can check out soulful singer Lisa Donnelly as well as special guest local musician Ryan Halliburton.

Get ready to dance the night away at an All That Dance Party at Flask Lounge in Portland tonight. DJs Nocturnal, Mr Dereloid, DJ RahJahh Omega, and Moses are ready to get you grooving out on the dance floor. So show everyone that you’re all that and a bag of chips tonight as things get crankin’ right around 9 o’clock.

Northampton folk-rocker Jamie Kent makes the trek up to Waterville tonight for a free show at Mainely Brews. The fun starts at 9:30 this Friday, so swing through with a crew if you’re out and about in the area tonight.

One of my favorite mid-coast prig-rock bands, The 220s, returns to Portland this Friday with a show at The Big Easy on Market Street. Check out this trio of insanely talented dudes as they get the party started at 9:30 tonight.
