The Kenya Hall Band serves up healthy portions of funk & soul for your Friday at The Big Easy

Yes! Hooo-lay yesss! It is finally Friday! Seriously, I didn’t start to feel like a human and reach total recovery from Old Port Fest until yesterday – no joke. So I am infinitely glad that I can go and rock the funk out this evening without having to wake up to my heinous alarm clock tomorrow morning. I’m ready to hike up my Party Jorts and get down with some live, local music. There’s a ton of fabulous Fridaying to be done, so do it to it!

If you find yourself up in Bangor, be sure to check out a solo show from folk artist Jacob Augustine at the Nocturnem Draft Haus. Starting at 5 o’clock, you can check out some emotional, experimental, and unparalleled tunes from Augustine whilst enjoying a fine pint of beer, so stop by and check it out.

Singer/songwriter Connor Garvey will be bringing his own brand of acoustic folk-rock-indie-soul music to the Portland Lobster Company deck this evening. Check out Connor as he starts playing tunes right around 6 o’clock tonight.

If you’re hanging outside of Portland tonight be sure to check out a good time happening at Gilbert’s Chowder House in Windham tonight as Captain Ray and the Castaways are geared up to keep you dancing all Friday long with some rock and/or roll starting right around 7 o’clock.

Portland garage rockers, Whale Oil release their debut album with a mighty fine party over at Port City Music Hall on Congress Street in Portland. Tonight this trio of talented dudes teams up with legendary Portland alt-rocker, Darien Brahms, lord of the lyrics, Brzowski and the rock n’ roll duo known as Lord Earth for an evening chock full of good times, good tunes and good people. You should probably swing on by and check it out as things get crankin’ right around 8.

Mathew’s on Free Street in Portland is also dealing out some rock n’ roll for your Friday evening, but tonight’s show is a bit louder and harder than that previously mentioned. Starting at 8 you can check out some face melting sets courtesy of 13 High, Breakthrough and Misgyded.

Portland indie rock act, The English Breakfast, releases its debut album Shifting Seas with a CD release show spectacular at Mayo Street Arts in Portland featuring special guests 70s folk/60s psych inspired, The Robin and Rose as well as driving Americana rockers, Silent Sam and The Evans. Tonight’s celebration gets underway right around 8 o’clock.

The Frontier Café in Brunswick welcomes local pop-Americana rockers the Jason Spooner Trio to their unique and intimate stage this evening. You can check out these talented roots-rockers as they do their thing starting at 8.

If you’re hoping to take the acoustic route this evening, then I promise you’ll be pleasantly surprised and thoroughly entertained by what Acoustic Artisans in Portland has to offer this evening as the all-acoustic mash-up of raw and passionate music and dance known as OLAS plays alongside Portland’s prolific blues man, Samuel James. Tunes, dancing and all around good times kick off at 8 o’ clock, so don’t miss it.

Check out some good eats and tasty tunes tonight down at The Frog & Turtle on Main Street in Westbrook where Pete Witham & The Cozmik Zombies will be taking over with their own brand of twisted Americana/rockabilly. These fellas are always a ton of fun and play some seriously awesome songs, so check ‘em out as things get crankin’ around 8:30 tonight.

Personally, I am in dire need of some funk and soul for my funk and soul hole, and I know of no one to deliver that better than the one, the only Ms. Kenya Hall who will be killin’ it on stage all night long with her band down at The Big Easy on Market Street in Portland. Things are going to get fresh, and maybe a little bit weird, and you know I wouldn’t be surprised if it also got slightly sticky as the band hits right around 9.

Foundation Friday at Flask Lounge in Portland celebrates the Southern Maine Pride Festival happening this weekend with a special Pride Edition of tunes and dancing with DJs Popgirl 23, Jamie O’Sullivan and Mr. Dereloid. Hit the dance floor and bust a move to some of the best house music around as the party starts at 9 o’clock with absolutely no cover charge. Woo!

If you’re feeling a Phishy this evening then head on over to Buck’s Naked BBQ in Freeport where Phish tribute band, Pardon Me, Doug will be playing some jams to keep you noodling all night long. Featuring members of Heavy Dime, The Project, Giraffe Attack and more, these guys are ready to make you lose your head starting right around 9.

We are going to get to that weather where you just wanna be out on a deck somewhere, sipping a cold adult beverage, and listening to some tunes. Why not get that going this Friday night with some live hip-hop at The Pier Patio Pub in Old Orchard with JB5? These cool cats will be bringing the thunder to the pier starting at 9 o’clock.

North of Portland, over at Paddy Murphy’s Bangor, The Blast Addicts will be partying with some party rockin’ and rollin’. Starting at 9:30, bust out those Party Pants and get ready to bust some moves with this super fun rock band.

The Larks are bringing their unique brand of country, disco, new wave and punk (yup, a little bit of everything for everyone) to the Thirsty Whale Tavern in Bar Harbor tonight. The party starts around 9:30 tonight so if you’re in the area, check it out!

If busting a move and shakin’ what your momma gave ya to something a little funky and in the way of rock and roll then get on over to Brian Boru in Portland where you can check out Velourosaurus. That’s right, Eric Bettencourt is back in town so he’s ready to tear it up with his old cover band Velourosaurus. Beginning at 9:30 the fellas will be bringing you the best jams with selections from The Beatles to Led Zeppelin, Stevie Wonder, Charlie Daniels, Cee Lo Green, and many more.
