The Coalsack in Crux, Boyfriends & Erroraeon rock Geno's tonight

Happy First Friday! It’s time to step up and step out to take in all of the terrifically awesome sights and sounds this finally Friday has to offer. Here’s what’s shaking, babies!

For anyone who enjoys a good stack of wax, be sure to check out the Portland Record Party tonight hosted by UpTown Vinyl and the Portland Flea-for-All over on Kennebec Street in Portland. Vendors from all over New England will converge for a First Friday full of fun, vinyl, CDs, 33s, 45s and more featuring all genres of music at all prices. The fun gets underway right around 5:30, so swing through and check it out if you’re in the market for some new or old tunes.

Local musician Dean Richardson commemorates the release of his brand new record, Far From Finished with a celebration at the First Parish Congregational Church in Gorham this evening. Anticipate tons of good tunes and good times as Dean joins forces with Paul Colman and Jonas Woods to bring the songs of the record to life. Things get underway at 7 o’clock and a portion of ticket proceeds will go to benefit Gorham’s Food Pantry.

Sparks the Rescue’s Toby McAllister goes solo tonight for a special acoustic performance up at Cole Farms in Gray. Beginning at 7:30 Toby will be playing some of his favorite STR songs as well as some popular music from the past 20 years.

They might have an exceptionally funny/confusing name, but The THE BAND Band is ready to bring some serious fun to the stage of One Longfellow Square in Portland tonight as they present the music of The Band. Enjoy all of the classic tunes you know and love as they bring to life the songs of The Band in a manner true to its original style and form starting at 8.

The Dogfish Bar & Grille on Free Street in Portland presents local act, The Waiters who will be serving up some quality tunes for you to ease into the weekend with. The Waiters will be dishing out all of your favorite cover songs at this free gig that gets started at 8 o’clock.

Shine on you crazy diamond and mellow your mind with the sounds of Pink Floyd this Friday as The Machine, one of the top-rated Floyd tribute acts in the country, brings a genuine Floydian experience to the State Theatre in Portland. Things get cranking right around 8 o’clock tonight.

If you’re kicking back and hanging out in Saco this finally Friday, get down to the Kerrymen Pub where southern Maine blues rockers The J.C.W. Experiment will be dishing out good times and good tunes starting at 8.

Check out some stellar, modern day blues action down at Port City Music Hall in Portland this Friday as they welcome two talented acts to the stage for a night full of grooves. Get there at 8 to check out an opening set from blues guitarist Lightnin’ Malcolm followed by the American southern rock and blues of the North Missississippi Allstars.

Brooklyn steamboat soul act Roosevelt Dime heads on up to Unity for a Friday night show at the Unity College Center for the Performing Arts. The act will most likely be playing new tunes off their latest album, Full Head of Steam. Things get underway right around 8 o’clock.

Acoustic duo Uke n’ Smile will transform into a four-piece this evening with the help of Ryan Halliburton and Steve Dunphy for a 4 hour extravaganza of good times and good tunes down at Last Call in Old Orchard Beach. Warm up and have some fun tonight starting at 8:30. 

Go ahead and get funky with it this Friday at Gingko Blue in the Old Port where local funk and soul act Mama’s Boomshack will be doing it up right with a free show that starts at 9.

Check out a free show from a trio of Portland’s finest indie folk-rockers down at Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge on Preble Street this evening as Dustin Saucier performs a stripped down set of acoustic tunes alongside Builder of the House and Geoff Zimmerman. Things get underway right around 9 this evening.

Portland funk rockers Rustic Overtones take a trip down to Dover, New Hampshire tonight to rage out at the Dover Brickhouse. Get there right around 9 tonight to check out an opening set from NH rock quartet String Theory

Portland’s own indie pop rock act Forget, Forget wraps up a week long tour with a show down at The Press Room in Portsmouth, NH this Friday evening. Soulful singer White Hinterland will join the band for a show that gets underway at 9 o’clock.

Your last chance to check out heavy garage rockers The Coalsack in Crux before they disappear for a while to work on new material happens tonight down at Geno’s Rock Club in Portland. The party starts at 9 o’clock and will feature additional performances from local acts Boyfriends and Erroraeon.

Bayside Bowl in Portland welcomes three local acts to their stage for a full Friday night of good ol’ indie rock. Starting at 9 you can check out energetic and entertaining sets from Volcano Rabbit, Yes We Kin, and The Feather Lungs.

It’s common knowledge that Fridays are a perfect time to shake your moneymaker so you might as well do just that by getting down to Flask Lounge in Portland where DJ Jamie O’Sullivan will be hosting his monthly LOVE event. LOVE features O’Sullivan bringing you the best house, techno and disco to shake your can to. You can check out this free dance party starting right around 9.

Things get funky at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port tonight with Shut Down Brown who promise to keep you dancing the night away with their blends of progressive-rock, funk, and soul upstairs starting at 9:30. Get your first Friday funk on at this free and fun show.

Big Ol’ Dirty Bucket are ready to lay it on down this evening and get some booties shakin’ out on the dance floor as they blow up the stage of Mainely Brews in Waterville with some straight up funk. Things get shakin’ right around 9:30.
