The Clash continues as Neil Young takes on Tom Petty at The Empire tonight

Sweet, wonderful Wednesday, I have missed pretty much every, single thing about you as you mark the half way point to the freakin’ weekend. Now that you’ve finally arrived I can rejoice and have some fun celebrating the fact that I’m that much closer to two days of pure freedom. So on that note, here we go!

It might be getting a bit nippy out there, but this is sweater weather (aka sweather) so grab something long-sleeved and make your way down to Portland Lobster Company on Commercial Street where Eric Bettencourt and company will keep you warm with some sunshiny tunes out on the deck starting right around 6 o’clock.

Doubting Gravity’s frontwoman, Andi Fawcett goes solo this evening with a set of tunes over at the Pepperclub/Good Egg Café on Midde Street in Portland.  Andi will be playing some acoustic songs for you to bob your head to starting right around 8 o’clock so be sure to check her out if you’re looking for some early evening entertainment this Wednesday.

Over at Gingko Blue on Fore Street in the Old Port you can check out local blues/jazz singer/songwriter Stesha Cano as she does her thing starting right around 7. There is never ever a cover charge at Gingko, so grab some pals, a fancy drink and ease your way into Wednesday night.

Down at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port is ready for another fun evening of folk tunes courtesy of local duo the Squid Jiggers. These fellas will be creating sounds that perfectly pair with an ice-cold pint, so swing on by and check them out if you’re in the downtown area tonight.

Local singer-songwriter Monique Barrett will be bringing her blend of soulful folk songs to the stage of One Longfellow Square in Portland this evening as she opens up for folk duo Sarah Lee Gutherie and Johnny Irion. Tonight’s event gets underway with Monique leading things off right around 8.

Ben Kilcollins will be making his way on over to RiRa on Commercial Street in Portland this evening for some acoustic jam action. Ben is a skilled singer-songwriter that you should definitely check out if you’re hanging around the Old Port tonight. His set gets underway right around 8:30, so stop on by and check it out.

The Clash of the Titans continues tonight at The Empire on Congress Street in Portland and this week I feel a whole lot of internal conflict brewing. I mean, I’m essentially being asked to choose between two of my most favorite men in the history of rock n’ roll. Sure, they’re both terrific songwriters with amazing tunes, but for me trying to side with either Tom Petty or Neil Young, is kind of like inquiring whether I prefer The Beatles to The Stones, and ya know what? They’re both extremely awesome, but not at all the same. Anyway, I’ll drink a couple of beverages and sort it out amongst myself, but in the meantime be sure to get there at 9 as Dominic Lavoie and friends assume the role of Thomas Earl Petty and Jeff Beam and company take on the task of emulating Neil “Shakey” Young and Crazy Horse.

Work it out this Wednesday over at Flask Lounge in Portland where another edition of Unknown Pleasures will be taking place starting right around 9. Tonight’s post-punk, synth-pop, new wave, goth-industrial dance party is free and fun, so check it out if you need to shake them hips!

Local indie folk act, Tall Horse, plays its first ever, full band show over at Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge on Preble Street in Portland this evening. Check out some of the band’s new tunes from the new EP Wolves and even pick up a limited edition copy if you feel so inclined. Things get going right around 9 o’clock.

The Wednesday night tradition known as Rap Night continues down at The Big Easy on Market Street in Portland where host Ill By Instinct will be presenting some showcase sets from Violently Ill and Immense Porpoise. KTF Terison will be spinning on the decks and ladies get in free all night long. So swing through and check it out as things get jumpin’ right around 9 tonight.
