The Alternate Routes return to Portland with The Ballroom Thieves at Port City Music Hall tonight

Dudes, I’ve had Friday on my mind since Monday, so I am incredibly happy that the weekend is only mere hours away! It’s so close that I can almost taste the vodka sodas that I’ll be enjoying this evening, so fill ‘er up and get out there this weekend! Let’s go!

The John Nowak Quartet will be playing some jazz favorites at tonight’s free show at the Nocturnem Draft Haus in Bangor. Special guest Steve Robbins will also be on hand entertaining with song and stand-up comedy as things get underway right around 7 this evening.

Local soul act The Kenya Hall Band will be joined by more than 300 students from Portland’s elementary, middle and high schools tonight as they present Ain’t Gonna Let Nobody Turn Us Around, a musical tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s activism on this the 50th anniversary of his Noble Peace Prize. This special event will start at 7pm at Portland’s Merrill Auditorium.

The Telling Room‘s Slant series returns to SPACE Gallery in Portland tonight with another installment of ten minute stories told from the heart. “The Soundtrack of Our Lives” will feature five stories about the music that’s made local Tellers such as Lauren Wayne, Joe Conway, Mary Phillips-Sandy, Sara Hallie Richardson, and Richard Gammon what they are. This event is free and open to the public, so get there at 7 and grab yourself a seat!

Some great country and western tunes will be twanging away tonight at Lisa’s Restaurant & Lounge in Augusta as The Cowboy Angels saddle up to play you the best classic country covers all night long. Crooning, toe tapping, and twang starts at 7:30.

Western Maine’s electric-Americana style duo, Turner Templeton will be turning things up right around 8 o’clock down at Bayside Bowl in Portland this Friday.

If you’re hanging outside of Portland tonight be sure to check out a good time happening RJ’s Pub in South Portland tonight as Captain Ray and the Castaways are geared up to keep you dancing all Friday night long with some rock and/or roll starting right around 8.

Local Americana pop-rockers The Toughcats will be taking over Billy’s Tavern in Thomaston tonight. Starting at 8 get ready to kick up your heels with these talented gents for a night of good times and good music.

Check out The Hive in Kennebunk’s monthly jazz jam with jazz musician, composer and teacher Chris Humphrey. Humphrey will take to the stage alongside the rest of his trio for an evening of jazz and jams, which all are welcome to participate in. Check it out if you’re in the area this evening as things get underway right around 8.

Blues chanteuse Erin Harpe is joined by her band the Delta Swingers for an evening of good times and good tunes at One Longfellow Square in Portland this Friday evening. Bangor roots rockers Eric Green Party will kick things off with some danceable tunes starting right around 8 o’clock.

Local folk/country star Shanna Underwood will be performing a set of tunes up at Guthries in Lewiston this Friday evening. If you’re kicking around town then be sure to stop by and enjoy some songs starting at 8.

Gingko Blue on Fore Street in Portland will be taking things to the limit this Friday night with some urban Chicago blues courtesy of Mike James’ Blue Lions. The fun starts right around 8 tonight, so check it out if you’re kicking it in the Old Port.

It’s time again for Jazz Friday over at The Dogfish Bar & Grille on Free Street in Portland tonight. Some very talented cats in the form of LQH (Chas Lester, Tyler Quist, and Evan Haines) will be bringing their melting pot of sound that touches on everything from soul to jazz to funk to rock over to The Dogfish starting at 8 o’clock tonight.

Genre-defying alt-rockers The Alternate Routes return to Portland tonight as they headline a show alongside Cambridge folk rock act The Ballroom Thieves at Port City Music Hall on Congress Street. Things get started around 8 o’clock.

If you’re looking to get down to a little Drum & Bass action this evening, mosey over to Flask Lounge in Portland where The Digital Mercenaries will be delivering sounds that are sure to make you shake your hips all night long. Tonight’s event starts at 9 o’clock and will feature Jack MF, Noremac, DJ Goodtymez and MC22, it’s also absolutely free, so check it out!

Local alternative band The Mad Mulligans will be taking to the stage of Mainely Brews in Waterville tonight for a show chock full of original punk and garage inspired, fiddle and banjo-infused rock and/or roll! Whew, sounds like a bunch of awesome, so be sure to check it out as things get crankin’ right around 9 o’clock.

A huge night of punk, rock, surf and ska takes over Geno’s in Portland this Friday as El Grande, Thee Icepicks, Big Meat Hammer and Torn in Two turn things up starting right around 9 o’clock.

Four Sticks, a tribute to Led Zeppelin, celebrates a decade of rocking and rolling with a show at Fury’s Publick House in Dover, NH ttonight. There’s never anything wrong with a little Led for your head, so check out this evening’s gig starting at 9.

Alter Igor will be rocking out The Kennebec Wharf in Hallowell with their blend of classic tunes. These fellas will be playing everything from Nick Lowe to The Who as they get things underway right around 9 tonight.

If you find yourself up in the Hallowell area this evening be sure to stop by Easy Street Lounge as The Whitefields take to the stage right around 9 o’clock. Best described as a folk, funk and rock venture, this band is known for its strong vocal harmonies. Expect a wide range of styles as they take the stage tonight.

The fellas in Kilcollins bring their rock and roll party upstairs to Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port this Friday. Starting at 9:30 the boys will be playing covers of tunes that everyone knows, loves, and can shake a tail feather to.

KGFREEZE frontman, Kyle Gervais will be doing his DJ thing this evening as his spins tunes over at Sonny’s in the Old Port. Starting at 10 o’clock pair a tasty beverage with some tasty tunes as KG plays stuff you love and stuff you didn’t know you loved.
