Take on Thursday with The Toughcats at the Empire

In Thursday We Trust. You know why? Because it’s the day of the week where you look back and realize you’ve almost made it to another freakin’ weekend! Hope your Party Pants are pressed because there’s a lot to get done tonight. Here we go!

So, it’s not necessarily a live show per say, but it is musically related and it is quite important so be sure to do what you can to help community radio station WMPG out during their Spring Begathon, which starts today. It’s their 40th birthday this year and their pledge drives are critical to keeping the station alive. They’re hoping to raise a lot of sought so tune in and donate. You can also donate online to help out this awesome station that has had a big impact on Maine music.

Pretty Girls Sing Soprano will be filling the space of Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street in Portland with beautiful sounds and songs starting right around 7 this evening. Since their inception Pretty Girls Sing Soprano have quickly turned heads with their tight, clever and original harmonies.

Check out some smart pop fused with Americana and folk a la Wilco and Old 97s as local rockers Welterweight take the stage of Blue on Congress Street for a free performance starting right around 7 tonight.

If you’re looking to tickle your funny bone tonight, check out The Big Easy’s Thursday Comedypalooza Showcase hosted by Tim Hoffman featuring 8 local comedians. Lots of laughs for the low, low price of $3 starts at 7:30.

Jam out with NY’s Assembly of Dust as they return to Port City Music Hall in Portland this Thursday to light up the stage with their folk rock that’s inspired by such bands at The Grateful Dead, The Band, Traffic and CSNY. The party starts right around 8 o’clock this evening.

Down at the Run of the Mill in Saco you can bust a move to alt-rock power trio Walkenhorse as they perform a free show tonight starting at 8 o’clock.

Gingko Blue on Fore Street in Portland will be getting funky this Thursday evening with some urban Chicago blues courtesy of Mike James’ Blue Lions. Tonight’s free event starts at 8 o’clock this evening, so be sure to stop by and enjoy a cocktail and some good tunes if you’re hanging around the Old Port.

Kilcollins will be rocking the night away at RiRa on Commercial Street in downtown Portland starting at 9 o’clock. The fellas will get your booty shaking out on the dance floor with all kinds of songs that you know and love as well as catchy original jams that are sure to keep you moving. Tonight’s show is free and guaranteed to be a fun way to spend a Thirsty Thursday, so check it out.

Be sure to check out some high-energy rockabilly courtesy of Ragged Jack at the Fusion Lounge in Lewiston tonight. This local act will be rockin’ your Thursday beginning at 9 as the kick off the Fuel the Arts event.

Local singer-songwriter Heather Styka will be hosting another installment of her new musical series tonight down at  Blue on Congress Street. Starting at 9 check out Truth or Dare, a songwriters in the round event that’s sort of like a middle school sleepover, but with songwriters. Tonight’s Truth or Dare is free and should be a lot of fun featuring not only Heather, but Calen Perkins and Bethel Steele so swing through and check things out.

 

Local Americana pop-rockers The Toughcats will be taking over Empire on Congress Street in Portland tonight. Starting at 9:30 prepare to kick up your heels with this talented trio of fellas  and special guests If and It for a full evening of good times and good music.

Hello Newman is ready once again to pump out the jams with a free night of fun upstairs at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port. Starting at 9:30 the fellas will be rockin’ all of your favorite 90s tunes. There’s never a cover, so check it out if you’re feeling a little nostalgic this evening.

Get on down to Gritty’s in Portland to check out the fellas in Vinyl Tap as they cover everything from Elton John to The Beatles to Cee Lo, The Grateful Dead and everything in between. If you’re looking for a non-stop dance party that never charges a cover to get in you definitely need to swing through Gritty’s as the party starts right around 10 tonight.
