I am exceptionally overjoyed to see your triumphant return, so much so that if I could, I would buy you a fancy drink and kiss you on the mouth, but I guess that’s unnecessary…and also very weird. Anyway, lots and lots of terrific tunes to take in this evening to help usher in the freakin’ weekend, so get out there and get some, my babies!
If you’re all the way up Dover-Foxcroft this evening be sure to check out the 2nd Annual Piscataquis Heritage Hot Air Balloon Festival at the Piscataquis Fairground. The event is a celebration of local talent in the arts, trades, crafts, agriculture and non-profit organizations and will feature all kinds of events, including liftoffs at 6am and 6pm. The festival starts this afternoon at 4 with performances from the Doug Hoyt Band at 5, and River Bottom Funk at 7.
If you’re looking to get your Friday underway early in Portland tonight, then be sure to check out the emotionally-charged folk rock of local musician Martin England as he performs on stage at Blue on Congress Street beginning at 6 o’clock.
Check out acoustic, duet-based act Saved and Sound tonight as they perform an early evening show down at JJ’s Eatery in Old Orchard Beach. This talented duo of music makers will be playing tunes starting at 6:30, so be sure to stop on by if you’re out on the beach this weekend.
If you’re anywhere near the Gray area tonight make your way over to Cole Farms for some acoustic music courtesy of local artist Matt Fournier. Matt will be providing the soundtrack to your finally Friday with a free, unplugged set starting at 7:30.
Sparks the Rescue’s Toby McAllister goes solo tonight for a special acoustic performance up at Mac’s Grill in Auburn this Friday. Starting right around 8 Toby will be playing some of his favorite STR songs as well as some popular music from the past 20 years.
More in the way of good tunes and good people will be happening at One Longfellow Square in Portland. Celebrate the start of the weekend with adventurous folk artist Heather Maloney as she plays in this unique and intimate venue beginning at 8 o’clock.
Maine folk troubadour Dan Blakeslee will be joined by special guests The Resonant Rogues for a night of musical merry making at The Oak and The Ax in Biddeford tonight. Starting at 8 enjoy the gypsy folk-jazz of Resonant Rogues as well as the poetic folk of Blakeslee in this one-of-a-kind venue.
Over on Commercial Street in Portland you can check out the Americana and blues sounds of local musician Frank Fotusky as he takes to the stage of Andy’s Old Port Pub for a free show starting at 8:30 this Friday evening.
South of the border tonight you can check out Portland’s own Mr. Dereloid on the decks down at The Red Door in Portsmouth where starting at 9 he’ll be serving p some of the best deep bass driven house music around.
Alt-rock trio Walkenhorse return to rock the Pier Patio Pub in Old Orchard Beach tonight. Not sure if you’ll actually be able to chill out on the patio, but even if Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate tonight’s free, 9 o’clock show should be a whole helluva lot of fun, so check it out.
There’s absolutely no doubt in my mind that beginning at 9 things are going to get both incredibly loud and incredibly awesome at Geno’s in Portland as four heavy hitting metal acts join forces to crush your skull and melt your face all night long. Bang your head and have some fun with Sylvia, Livver, NOTOX and Locusta this Friday.
Some high-grade reggae fusion will pumping in Portsmouth, NH tonight as Roots, Rhythm & Dub play The Blue Mermaid starting at 9. The band will be taking the stage to make you dance all night long, so check it out if you’re hanging around the seacoast area this evening.
If you’re getting your Friday on down in the Dover, NH area tonight, you should make plans to shake a tail feather at Fury’s Publick House where Computer Beach Party will be offering up some soul, funk and rock at a free show that gets crankin’ right around 9.
Funky electronic tunes and ultra stellar good vibes will be happening at Flask Lounge on Spring Street in Portland tonight as Alchera and Undrig team up to spin sets at a free dance party that commences right around 9 tonight.
Another Bah Hahbah gig to check out tonight will be happening with Band Beyond Description over at Mine Oyster. Far more than just your typical Dead Head band, these dudes jam out on everything from The Band, Phish, The Allman Brothers and many more. Tonight except a healthy heaping of good tunes, good times, good people and maybe even a hula hoop or two as the party starts around 9.
Usher in the start of the freakin’ weekend with some fun tunes and times down at RiRa on Commercial Street in Portland where local rockers Duke will be playing classic and current power pop, pop rock and alternative rock hits starting at 9:30.
Up in Waterville, bluesy classic rock act Cupcake Funeral will be doing it to it on stage at Mainely Brews for a free show filled with both cover tunes and original jams. The party gets started right around 9:30 this Friday.
Upstairs at Empire in Portland you can check out The Penthouse Dance Party featuring the very best underground house, techno and dance music courtesy of local DJs Ed Garrison, Marcus Caine, Christopher Gauthier, and Ian Hammond. Tonight’s event gets shaking right around 10 and will feature special guest DJ Peter Ahern.
Blue on Congress Street in Portland keeps the good times rollin’ with a 10 o’clock show featuring the funky, soulful blues of Black Cat Road. Get in on the fun at this free show if you’re kicking around town tonight.
