Songwriters in the Round returns to the Frontier Cafe this evening

Oh man, I realize it’s a short week with the holiday on Monday and all, but I really feel like I’m getting kicked straight in the fanny this week. I think I could crawl into bed and never get back out, so tonight I’ve gotta leave it up to you guys to party with exceptional proficiency this evening as I’m down for the count. Here are the places I would like for you to go so I can live vicariously through you. Thanks a bunch, my babies!

Be sure to check out tonight’s show over at Gingko Blue on Fore Street where Standard Issue will be playing all of the jazz classics from the Great American Songbook. Tonight’s gig starts right around 7 o’clock and is absolutely free, so swing on by, have a cocktail, and enjoy some golden era tunes this Wednesday evening.

No doubt about it that it’s been a little wet the last couple of days, but hopefully things will dry out a bit in time for you to enjoy some late summer breezes out on the El Rayo patio in Portland where classic Cuban music makers Primo Cubano get ready to play their weekly gig outside starting right around 7 o’clock.

The Songwriters in the Round showcase is back at the Frontier Café in Brunswick tonight with music from some of Maine’s most prolific talent. Beginning at 7, Lisa Redfern brings some these talented local songwriters to the stage to perform in an intimate, unplugged setting in Frontier’s theatre for a night of compelling songs and stories. Tonight’s line up features performances from Dave Dersham, Putnam Smith and Caroline Cotter.

Local singer-songwriter Jordan Kaulback will be guitar slingin’ and singin’ down at Binga’s on Free Street in Portland this evening for another edition of Ladies Night. Things get underway right around 8 o’clock, and ladies, y’all get in free.

If you’re looking for some open mic action for your mid-week party plans, then head on down to Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge on Preble Street in Portland where you can check out local musicians do their thing acoustically or even sign up to play some tunes of your own. Every Wednesday starting right around 8, local singer-songwriter Dustin Saucier hosts this free and fun event. Tonight’s open mic will be followed by a featured performance from singer-songwriter Erika Russo.

Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port is ready for another fun evening of folk tunes courtesy of local duo the Squid Jiggers. These fellas will be creating sounds that perfectly pair with an ice cold pint, so swing on by and check them out if you’re in the downtown area tonight.

Local acoustic duo, Uke n’ Smile, will be hosting their monthly open mic night over at the Frog & Turtle in Westbrook this evening. Beginning at 8 o’clock all reasonably capable musicians are more than welcome to play some tunes or you can come and sing and the fellas in Uke n’ Smile will play the music for you. It’s free, fun and yummy drinks and food are available as well, so if you’re in the area tonight, be sure to stop by and check it out.

Yo, Hump Day means it’s time to get down to The Big Easy in Portland where another Rap Night will be highlighting some local hip-hop emcees all night long. Every Wednesday the dangerously awesome duo of Ill By Instinct and El Shupacabra team up to host their weekly party that features some of the dopest local rappers and DJs around. Blast off with the crew starting at 9 tonight.

Local acts Owen Davis and Joel Carpenter & The Effects have a very important question to ask of you… Are you sick of your socks and would you like to have them rocked off? If you answered yes to any part of this inquiry then I would suggest getting down to Flask Lounge on Spring Street in Portland where these fellas join forces to bring you some high quality rock n’ roll beginning at 9 o’clock.

Kilcollins will be doing their super fun pop-rock thing out on the Oasis patio in the Old Port tonight to help you blow off some mid-week steam. Starting at 9 you can do all kinds of rockin’ and rollin’ with these cool dudes as they play all of the tunes you know and love as well as some catchy originals that are certain to get your hips shaking. It’s free, fun and I guarantee a good time, so get to it if you’re kickin’ around Wharf Street tonight check it out!
