Sir Elton takes on Billy Joel for this week's Clash of the Titans at The Empire

Two more days to go and then it’s on to the freakin’ weekend, babies! Luckily Wednesday is offering up a variety of places to go in order to hurdle the hump on a high note. Bust out your Mid-Week Party Pants and get ready break it on down this evening.

The Songwriters in the Round showcase is back at the Frontier Café in Brunswick tonight with music from some of Maine’s most prolific talent. Starting at 7 o’clock, Lisa Redfern brings some of these talented local songwriters together on stage to perform in an intimate, unplugged setting in Frontier’s theatre for a night of compelling songs and stories. Tonight’s line up features performances from Greg Klein, Heather Styka, and Giff Jameson.

Kick start your mid-week party in to high gear with a free show from The Dapper Gents who will be rocking some fun folk-pop for you over at Binga’s on Free Street in Portland. Grab some pals and get ready to have some fun as things get started right around 8 tonight.

Wednesday night means it’s time again for some open mic action down to Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge on Preble Street in Portland where you can check out local musicians as they do their thing or you can even sign up to play some tunes of your own. Every Wednesday starting right around 8, local singer-songwriter Dustin Saucier hosts this free and fun event.

Things are, literally, going to be popping over at SPACE Gallery on Congress Street in Portland tonight as a handful of eclectic and imaginative pop acts take to the stage. Starting at 8 you can check out sets from Calvin Love as well as North America, Beat Detectives and Joint Custody.

Local acoustic duo, Uke n’ Smile, will be hosting their monthly open mic night down at the Frog & Turtle on Main Street in Westbrook. Starting right around 8 o’clock all reasonably capable musicians are welcome to play some tunes during tonight’s event or attendees are also encouraged to come up and sing with the fellas in Uke n’ Smile as they play some backing music to sing along to. It’s free, and definitely fun so if you’re in the area tonight be sure to stop by and check it out.

The Clash of the Titans continues at the newly renovated Empire on Congress Street in Portland this Wednesday evening with the ultimate battle of piano men as Elton John dukes it out with Billy Joel. See the Rocket Man go toe-to-toe or maybe finger-to-finger (…?) with the self-titled Piano Man as things get underway right around 9 this evening.

Yo, Hump Day also means that it’s time to get down to The Big Easy in Portland where another installment of the one and only Rap Night will be  highlighting some of the local hip-hop scenes most talented emcees and DJs. Your host Ill By Instinct will be holding it down for this weekly party that gets underway right around 9 tonight.
