Written by: Holly Nunan

Let’s do this thing! We’ve hurdled the hump and now we’re geared up and ready for another thrilling Thursday. Tonight will not disappointment, so let’s jump right in and see what’s shaking, shall we?

Local soulful songstress Monique Barrett will be performing a free show at Doc’s Cafe in Cumberland this evening. Starting at 5 enjoy some delicious food, homemade sangria or a beer and some live music out on the patio courtesy of Monique and her acoustic guitar.

Local artist Barry Arvin Young will be playing a variety of easy listening classics up at the Silver Street Tavern in Waterville tonight. This free show gets underway at 7, so swing through if you’re hanging around the area this Thursday evening.

Local singer-songwriter Brian Patricks will be joining forces Mat Simpson and Parker Kenyan to bring their rock and blues trio, Cayden’s Call, to life at Andy’s Old Port Pub in downtown Portland this evening. Check out these fellas as they get things going right around 7.

If you’re in the southern Maine area this evening swing by The Run of the Mill in Saco where acoustic duo Uke n’ Smile will be doing their thing this Thursday evening. Starting right around 8, this dynamic duo will be playing some acoustic jams to get your evening started off right. It’s a free gig, there’s terrific food and delicious drinks, so check it out if you’re in the area this evening.

Ramblin’ Dan Stevens will be live at Acoustic Artisans in Portland this Thursday evening. Beginning at 8 check out Stevens’ unique style of “bottleneck” slide playing as his mixes traditional blues, Americana and his own original material for a night of terrific tunes.

Up in Bangor tonight you can get down to a free show at Hollywood Slots featuring local country artist Parris Bacon. Parris and his band will be performing his own original pop-country tunes as well as covers from such artists as  Elvis Presley, George Jones, George Straight, Alan Jackson, Hank Williams, Jr., Lynyrd Skynyrd, and more. Tonight’s show gets underway right around 8 o’clock.

If you’re up in Lewiston tonight and looking to work it out on the dance floor to some of the best drum and bass, and electro dance music around then make your way over to Fusion Lounge where The Grind Syndicate, Elusid, Goodtymes and Moremac will be spinning  tunes at this free dance party starting at 8 o’clock.

Every first Thursday at Blue on Congress Street in Portland, local folk artist Max García Conover trades songs with a different songwriter he admires. This Thursday Max will be off getting married, so instead of just one songwriter he admires, there’ll be two. Those two local talents being singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Geoff Zimmerman who’s music has been described as both urban-folk as well as indie-rock and award winning folk singer Paddy Mills. Tonight’s free event gets underway at 9 o’clock, so be sure to stop by and check it out.

Some high-grade reggae fusion will bumping every Thursday night out on the Oasis patio in the Old Port as Roots, Rhythm & Dub begin their summer residency tonight starting at 9. Every Thursday all summer long the act will make you dance to some awesome reggae sounds. There’s never a cover charge so check it out if you’re hanging downtown tonight.

Local drummer Chicky Stoltz will be drumming up some action with a free show at Sonny’s in Portland this Thursday. Chicky’s music is both dark and charming and shifts between bar blues and Americana, so be sure to check him out tonight as things get underway right around 9 o’clock in the Sonny’s lounge.

Simone Felice will be playing a special solo show upstairs at Empire in Portland this Thursday. Felice first turned heads in the band The Felice Brothers, who emerged from New York’s Catskill mountain region in 2006 to help kick start the current roots rock revival. Felice, a celebrated songwriter, author, and poet, will be joined on tonight’s bill by Portland’s own Pete Kilpatrick, who will open things up right around 9:30.

Perhaps you’re feeling a bit nostalgic for the days of yore i.e. the 90s and want to bust a move to some tunes from bands such as Sublime, Blink 182, and even Chumbawumba (yup, Chumbawumba), then you should probably head out to Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port where 90s alt-rock cover band Hello Newman will be getting the party started right around 9:30 tonight.

The fellas of Vinyl Tap are ready to party down at Gritty’s in the Old Port this thirsty Thursday. Vinyl Tap is known for making people bust a move to their awesomely danceable cover tunes that vary from everything such as The Beatles, Huey Lewis, Cee Lo Green, Stevie Wonder, The Dead and many, many more. There’s never a cover charge and plenty of beer – it is Gritty’s after all, so check it out starting at 10 tonight.
