Sea Level celebrates a new record with special guests Micromasse at Empire tonight

Finally, not only is it Friday, but I think that giant, glowing orb in the sky might hang out with us for a hot minute this weekend! There are a ton of awesome things going on all around town and beyond for your First Friday, so hike up those Party Pants and shake some action this evening!

Throw your First Friday into fun mode with some serious good times courtesy of Portland’s own folk-pop act The Dapper Gents as they play a free show at Buck’s Naked BBQ in the Old Port this evening. Starting at 4 enjoy some delicious food and drinks as these guys play some original material as well as well-known cover tunes. 


Hopefully the weather will take pity on our saturated souls and allow us to enjoy some patio time tonight down at The Porthole in Portland where Fighting Fiction will be providing a free and fun soundtrack for your weekend kick-off. This four piece act covers a wide variety of material from all kinds of genres including modern pop, rock, alternative, country, classic rock and more. The party starts out on the deck right around 5 o’clock. 


More in the way of Happy Hour musical merriment takes place at the Dogfish Bar & Grille on Free Street in Portland as they welcome up local singer-songwriter, Isaiah Bennett to perform a set that showcases his unique blend of acoustic pop and funk. Things get underway right around 5 tonight, so stop on by and check it out if you’re in the area and looking for something fun and free to do during your Art Walking!


Another great place to enjoy the First Friday Art Walk is at One Longfellow Square as the unique venue opens its doors at 5 for an art exhibit featuring works by local musicians. Funky Bow Brewery and Beer Company will be slingin’ free samples of their summertime ales and there’ll be snacks too. The event, named Auxiliary Arts, is a showcase of visual art created by musicians, showing the talents of artists who work across many mediums. This month’s installment features pieces by Hutch Heelan, Griffin Sherry from The Ghost of Paul Revere, Dylan Verner of Theodore Treehouse, Jaye Drew, Patty Morris of Dukkha’s Nemesis, and Ryan Eyestone interpreting An Overnight Low’s record ‘Euston.’ This free and fun event is not to be missed so be sure to stop in and check things out.


Enjoy some good times up at Peek-A-Boo Tattoo on Congress Street as they welcome Portland-based gypsy blues-folk act Muddy Ruckus to their shop for a free First Friday show starting at 6. Enjoy some rhythmic guitar, slamming upright bass and haunting vocal harmonies that’ll leave you stomping your feet alongside a bunch of friendly folks. 


A loud all ages rock show will be rolling through the Windham Veterans Center in Windham this Friday. Starting at 6 check out some high-energy, heavy sets from The Nasty, Born Under a Bad Sign, Never Relaxed, Waste of Life, Repeat Offender, Crisis AD, No Way Out, Can’t Win, War Torn and Crystal Methodist.


Maine-based artist Dean Richardson will be performing tracks off his new record, Far From Finished at The Deeper Well Church in Standish this evening. Tonight’s 7 o’clock show is all ages and will feature music from Rhode Island native Jonas Woods. Anticipate lots of good times, good tunes, and good people at this special event. 


I’m pretty certain booze cruises happen rain or shine, but let’s cross our fingers for some shine as Maine’s premier Grateful Dead cover band, A Band Beyond Description gets ready to sail the high seas of Casco Bay on Casablanca Cruise this evening. Far more than just your typical Dead Head band, these dudes jam out on everything from The Band, Phish, The Allman Brothers and many more. Boogie down on a boat as the ship sets sail at 7 tonight.


One Longfellow Square in Portland will keep the party going well into the evening as they welcome back Girls, Guns & Glory to the stage to deliver some of solid rockin’ and roarin’ country tunes. Boston indie folk-rocker Sarah Borges will kick things off with a some songs as things get underway around 8 tonight. 


Check out some fun indie rock down at The Oak and The Ax in Biddeford as psychedelic garage rockers S.S. Cretins  are joined by Heaven’s Gate and Sweet Teeth for an 8 o’clock show.


Join Royal Hammer as they throw down some raging reggae at Bayside Bowl in Portland for some fun finally Friday good times and vibes. The Hammer will be going full throttle into the freakin’ weekend with some of the best reggae around beginning at 8.


Shanna Underwood will be live at Guthries in Lewiston this Friday evening singing some songs of travel, lost loves, and coming home again. Shanna’s original tunes feature touches of blues, country. Drew Wyman on bass and Devon Colella on cello will join her as things get underway at 8 tonight. 


If you’re looking for some good times and good laughs this Friday, then go ahead and bust a gut with some of Portland’s most comical people at Local Laughs at The Asylum in Portland. Tonight, get your funny bone tickled by, Gwen Tuttle, Jake Jacobson,Bill Gray, Johnny Ater and more as things get started (for free!) right around 8.


Join Okbari Middle Eastern Ensemble for an evening of music from the Middle East and Turkey at Blue on Congress Street in Portland tonight. This local act performs on such unique instruments as oud (fretless Middle Eastern lute), qanun (72-stringed Middle Eastern micro-tonal zither), nay (ancient Middle Eastern reed flute), and Middle Eastern percussion. Tonight’s free gets underway at 8 so be sure to stop through on your way downtown.


The Dogfish Bar & Grille on Free Street in Portland welcomes back contagiously fun cover act The Waiters as the band gets ready to serve up some quality tunes for your finally Friday. The Waiters will be dishing out all of your favorite songs at this free gig that gets started at 8 o’clock.


Check out some roots rock for free up at Hollywood Slots in Bangor where Travis James Humphrey and his band will be playing starting right around 9 o’clock.


Dance it out down at The Brunswick in Old Orchard Beach as dance/pop cover act Tickle gets ready to bring the house down with some of the best of today’s music mixed in with a little touch of retro funk. The party starts at 8:30 tonight. 


Alt-rock trio Walkenhorse will be rockin’ Willy’s Ale Room in Acton this Friday. If you’re in the area and looking to have a whole helluva lot of fun, then join these fellas as they start crankin’ out some fun tunes starting at 9 o’clock. 


Robert Earl Keen brings his wonderful blend of country, Americana and folk tunes to life on stage at Port City Music Hall in Portland this finally Friday evening. Singer-songwriter Andrea Davidson will open the evening with a set of songs starting at 9. 


Slug and Ant of rap act Atmosphere return to the State Theatre in Portland from some compelling hip-hop action this Friday evening. Prof and Dem Atlas round out tonight’s show, which gets underway right around 9 o’clock tonight.


Central Maine pop-rockers, Tomorrow Morning will be playing live at Rock Harbor in Rockland this finally Friday evening. Check out this free show as the band gets ready to play a variety of cover songs as well as original material beginning at 9.


Exceptionally talented local multi-instrumentalist Dan Capaldi brings his act Sea Level to the stage of Empire in Portland tonight for a show full of uniquely blended hip-hop, jazz, indie rock, and theatrics in celebration of Sea Level’s newly released self-titled record. Special guests Kristina Kentigian, eyenine, Black Castro, Lady Zen, Derrick Ramos, and Kevin Oates will join Capaldi to recreate the electronically manipulated sounds of the record. Original organ trio Micromasse will kick things off this evening with an opening set that gets underway at 9 o’clock. Get there early and hang out late so you don’t miss a beat this First Friday.


Friday nights were made for busting a move so you better do just that down at Flask Lounge in Portland where DJ Jamie O’Sullivan will be hosting his monthly LOVE dance party event. LOVE features O’Sullivan and special guest Ryan Tapia bringing you some of the best house, techno and disco music around for you to properly shake your can to. Tonight’s free party gets underway right around 9 o’clock so check it out. 


If you missed Simone Felice in Portland yesterday you get another chance to check him out as he performs live at the Press Room in Portsmouth tonight. Felice first turned heads in the band The Felice Brothers, who emerged from New York’s Catskill mountain region in 2006 to help kick start the current roots rock revival. Check out this celebrated artist as he plays live starting at 9.  


If you find yourself Fridaying up in Hallowell this evening check the out high-energy, 4-piece, dance-your-butt-off, rock and roll band known as The Worthy Bones. These dudes are ready to get you grooving with an energetic set that gets underway right around 9 over at the Kennebec Wharf.


Brian Boru in the Old Port is geared up for a free dance party this evening as they welcome back Boston’s Lovewhip to the stage tonight. If you’re looking to get down to some electro-disco pop then scooch your pooch on over to Boru’s right around 9:30.


Have a wickedly good time up in Waterville tonight as Mainely Brews welcome the twisted rockabilly riot known as The Living Deads to the stage for a fun and freaky show that gets underway right around 9:30.


The Evan King Group will be laying down some funky jazz and soul at Blue on Congress Street in Portland this First Friday. Grab a drink and get ready to have some fun as the band hits right around 10.
