Rustic Overtones, The 220s & Tricky Britches play The Taste of Waterville

Half way to the freakin’ weekend, my babies! That is true cause for some serious celebrating and good thing, because there’s a ton of awesome things to check out tonight. So saddle up and get buck wild this Wednesday, yeehaw! (Yup, that happened…)

Tons of free, awesome, local music to take in at the Taste of Waterville event up in, yup, you guessed it, downtown Waterville. Starting at 5 o’clock you can check out sets from boot-stomping bluegrassers, Tricky Britches, prog-rock prodigies, The 220s and Maine rock royalty, the Rustic Overtones. This evening’s event is all ages and free, so if you’re in the area, don’t miss it!

I hate to be the realist here, but these summer evenings will be winding down very, very soon so you might as well take in as much music outside as you possibly can. So if you’re looking to enjoy a cold one out on the deck of the Portland Lobster Company on Commercial Street, tonight is just the night to do so as they welcome Eric Bettencourt and a couple of his pals to the stage. Starting at 6, you can check out Betts as he teams up with Seth Kearns and Adam Frederick for some good tunes and good times out on the deck for free.

Be sure to check out tonight’s show over at Gingko Blue on Fore Street where Standard Issue will be playing all of the jazz classics from the Great American Songbook alongside special guest vocal and trumpet extraordinaire, Mark Tipton. Tonight’s gig starts right around 7 o’clock and is absolutely free, so swing on by, have a cocktail, and enjoy some golden era tunes this Wednesday evening.

Another great way to work out your Wednesday and enjoy some sweet summer breezes happens out on the El Rayo patio in Portland where classic Cuban music makers Primo Cubano get ready to play their weekly gig outside in the sunshine starting right around 7 o’clock.

It’s the first Wednesday of the month so of course that means it’s time to check out local acoustic duo, Uke n’ Smile at the Frog & Turtle in Westbrook this evening. Beginning at 8 o’clock you can enjoy the fellas in Uke n’ Smile as they play so sweet acoustic tunes for you. It’s free, fun and yummy drinks and food are available as well, so if you’re in the area tonight, be sure to stop by and check it out.

Down at Bull Feeney’s on Fore Street in Portland you can check out the Squid Jiggers as they play some quality folk tuneage to pair perfectly with an ice cold beer this Wednesday evening. The duo will be getting things going right around 8, so swing through and check ‘em out if you’re hanging the Old Port.

There are a couple of open mic nights to check out around Portland tonight, the first one gets kicking into gear around 7 o’clock down at the Dogfish Bar & Grille on Free Street. All are welcome to sign up and perform. It’s free and totally fun, so check it out if you’re hanging around town tonight.

More open mic night action will be happening over at Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge on Preble Street in Portland where you can check out local musicians do their thing or even sign up to play some tunes of your own. Every Wednesday starting right around 8, local singer-songwriter Dustin Saucier hosts this free and fun event. Tonight’s open mic will be followed by a featured performance from New Jersey alternative punk rockets Morningside Lane.  So if you’re hanging out tonight and looking to check out something new, stop by and see what’s shaking.

Pop-rockers Kilcollins will be bringing the thunder to the Oasis patio in the Old Port tonight. Starting at 9 you can do all kinds of rockin’ and rollin’ with these cool dudes as they play all of the tunes you know and love as well as some catchy originals that are certain to get your hips shaking. It’s free, fun and I guarantee a good time, so get to it if you’re kickin’ around Wharf Street tonight check it out!

Hump Day means it’s time to get down at The Big Easy in Portland as another Rap Night will be highlighting some local hip-hop emcees all night long. Every Wednesday the dangerously awesome duo of Ill By Instinct and El Shupacabra team up to host their weekly party that features some of the dopest local rappers and DJs around. Blast off with the crew starting at 9 tonight.

Those foot stomping, good ol’ boys North of Nashville never, ever slow down and they prove that once again by playing a show up at Tantrum in Bangor tonight. The fellas will be rockin’, rollin’ and twangin’ starting right around 9 this evening.

More in the way of local hip hop is happening at Flask Lounge in Portland tonight where up and coming emcee from Bowdoinham, Stevie D will be dropping some rhymes this evening. Stevie D pulls his influences from artists such as Nas and Notorious B.I.G. as well as the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Adele. He’s ready to do it to this evening as things get cranking right around 9 tonight.

If you find yourself up in the Naples region this evening check out some live roots, reggae, and dub-step from Gorilla Finger Dub Band over at Bray’s Brew Pub. These fellas come together right around 9:30 to provide some extremely danceable party music for anyone who loves and appreciates all things reggae and dub.

If you’ve still got a bit of party in ya after the Taste of Waterville event, then make your way over to Mainely Brews where the Tricky Britches will be playing a set of for some old timey, roots/bluegrass tune this evening. They’ll be serving up their own style of backporch jam session bluegrass starting right around 9:30pm.
