Holy Mother of Pearl, I am glad to know that Wednesday will no doubt bring the thunder this evening as I’m starting to feel like I might not make it to the freakin’ weekend. Fear not though, there is an end in sight, and part of the light at the end of the tunnel that is shining so brightly for us all is from all of the wonderful activities this Hump Day has to offer. Here’s what’s shaking all around town and beyond this evening!
Gingko Blue on Fore Street in the Old Port welcomes award-winning musician Jennifer Porter to the stage along with her musical counterpart Sonny Barbato for an evening of standards from the ‘20s through the ‘40s as well as some old school blues tunes. The duo gets things underway at this free event starting right around 7.
Frontier in Brunswick’s Songwriters in the Round showcase returns with music from some of Maine’s most prolific musicians. Beginning at 7, Lisa Redfern brings some talented local singer-songwriters together on stage for an intimate, unplugged performance of compelling songs and stories. Tonight’s line up features the likes of Paddy Mills, Jenna Lindbo, and Steve Chiasson.
Acoustic duo, Uke n’ Smile will be hosting their open mic night at the Frog and Turtle on Main Street in Westbrook this Wednesday. Starting around 8, all musicians of all talents are welcome to play some tunes during the event. This open mic is free and definitely a lot of fun, so be sure to stop on by if you’re hanging in the Westbrook area this evening.
The Little Tap House on Spring Street in Portland continues its acoustic music series tonight with some songs courtesy of local songstress Andi Fawcett. Usually you can check out Andi as she sings with Sly-Chi and Doubting Gravity, but tonight she goes solo with a set that gets started at 8.
Head down to Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port this evening where local duo the Squid Jiggers will be playing their own brand of folk-infused drinking tunes. The fellas get the good times rollin’ right around 8 o’clock at this free and fun show, so if you’re hanging downtown be sure to check ‘em out!
If you’re looking to check out some open mic action in Portland tonight, make your way over to Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge on Preble Street where local musicians will be gathering to play tunes acoustically. Every Wednesday right around 8 o’clock, singer-songwriter Nick Poulin hosts this free and fun event.
Rap Night welcomes Brooklyn’s Louis Logic and Minneapolis’ ECID to the stage of The Asylum for this week’s showcase of hip-hop awesomeness. The duo will join forces tonight in support of their latest records, “Look On The Blight Side” and “Post Euphoria.” There’ll be early and late open mic ciphers, so swing through and check things out as the party starts right around 9.
This week’s Clash of the Titans is one of those match ups where you hate to openly admit that you know, and maybe even loved, some of the songs and music that was created by each band. This week relive the (hard to admit) past as Limp Bizkit takes on Creed upstairs at the Empire in Portland. Musicians from headstart, Forget, Forget, Worried Well, and more will be taking to the stage to portray these gone but apparently not forgotten alternative rock acts from the late 90s and early 00s as things get underway right around 9:30.
