Pink takes on Bruno Mars at this week’s Clash of the Titans at Empire

I will admit that I have been dragging some serious tail this week and therefore I’m pretty surprised by the fact that it’s already Wednesday. This realization has made me a very happy Nunz because it means that we are all one day closer to pulling up those weekend Party Pants and doing it to it. Until then, here are the haps for your Hump Day. 

Eric Bettencourt is still in town for a few more days so don’t miss your chance to catch him for free tonight as he plays a show out on the Portland Lobster Company deck. Starting at 6 Eric and a few pals will be singing songs and sharing stories at this all ages shindig. 


Bull Moose in downtown Portland will be celebrating what would have been American singer-songwriter Elliot Smith’s 45th birthday with a free show featuring local artist Jeff Beam playing a tribute of Smith’s songs. This celebration of Smith’s life and music gets underway at 6:30 this Wednesday evening.


Roots, Rhythm & Dub will be cruising Portsmouth Harbor this Wednesday evening aboard the Thomas Laighton for a night of dub-infused reggae. Tonight’s cruise sets sail into the sunset right around 6:30.


The Mill Creek Concert Series in South Portland continues this Wednesday evening with a free performance from alt-country rockers the Mallett Brothers Band. These fellas will be bringing their boot stompin’ anthems to life on the stage of the park’s gazebo as this all ages show kicks into high gear right around 6:30.


Local chanteuse Renee Coolbrith and talented piano man Kyle Friday come together once again for a special live performance in the lounge on MJ’s Wine Bar in Portland this Wednesday evening. This dynamic and talented duo will be teaming up for a free show of smoldering tunes that gets underway right around 8 o’clock.


Slab on Preble Street in Portland is the place to be tonight for delicious pizza and great live music as Royal Hammer throws down some raging reggae at a free, all ages 8 o’clock show. Enjoy some delicious Sicilian style fare while taking in some rocking reggae tunes out on the patio this Wednesday evening. 


Check out Frontier in Brunswick’s Live in the Lounge free music series this Wednesday as they welcome back The Lonesome Travelers for a night of entertainment that gets underway at 8.The Lonesome Travelers is an instrumental trio led by guitarist Peter Herman. The act performs interpretations of songs from many artists such as Willie Nelson, Thelonious Monk, Hank Williams, the Beatles, and more.

Over at Bull Feeney’s on Fore Street in the Old Port you can check out a free, fun evening of folk tunes with local duo the Squid Jiggers. These two gentlemen will be creating sounds that pair perfectly with an ice cold pint of beer starting at 8 o’clock tonight.


If you’re looking for to tap your toes to some some down home, acoustic roots tunes tonight then look no further than Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street in downtown Portland where local act David Beam and The Custom House Gang will be playing a free show starting at 8 o’clock.


The Frog and Turtle on Main Street in Westbrook welcomes back Ron Gill of blues act Poke Chop and The Other White Meats for another blues-based open mic night. This free open mic-style party starts right around 8, so stop in and check things out if you’re in the area this Wednesday evening.


The River House Restaurant’s Summer Concert Series continues this Wednesday evening out in Prescott Park in Portsmouth, New Hampshire with soulful rocker Martin Sexton performing an all ages show. Things get started with Boston folk trio Brothers McCann right around 7 o’clock with a suggested donation between eight and ten dollars.


Soulful siren Anna Lombard will be performing outside on the Western Prom this Wednesday evening as part of the Sunset Folk Series. Starting at 7:30 check out Anna and her band as she leads them through a powerful performance full of intense, emotive lyrics paired with soaring, full-range vocals. It should be a really fun night out on the Prom so grab some friends and check things out at this free event.


A one-night only radio broadcast of The Summer King, a new American opera by Maine–based composer and primary songwriter for local rock n’ roll act Lovers of Fiction, Daniel Sonenberg, who co-wrote the libretto with poet Daniel Nester, will make its radio debut on MPBN this evening at 8 o’clock live on the station’s stage in Bangor. The Summer King tells the story and legacy legacy of Negro League baseball player Josh Gibson whose prodigious talent with a bat earned him the moniker “the black Babe Ruth,” and secured him a spot as the second Negro League ballplayer ever inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Homegrown Music and Hot 104.7 Maine presents hip-hop artist Chris Webby live at Port City Music Hall in Portland tonight for an all ages show that gets popping off right around 8 with an opening set from Jitta On The Track.


The Oak and The Ax offers up a wonderful Wednesday filled with unique, acoustic ambient folk sounds at Trapper, Twain, and Buck & Anne take to the stage this evening for an 8 o’clock show.


A fun night of pulsating rock and roll takes over Flask Lounge on Spring Street this Wednesday as a trifecta of local talent takes to the stage for a free show tonight. Don’t miss sets from S.S. Cretins, Fur and a final performance from High Spirits as music hits right at 9 o’clock.


Things are definitely going to pop off at Rap Night down at The Asylum in Portland this Wednesday as tonight’s show will feature showcases from Dynamo-P with DJ Boondocks as well as NH’s Cody Pope and more. There’ll be early and late open mic cyphers with your hosts Ill By Instinct and El Shupacabra, and ladies, you get in free! It’s only $3 for you fellas with tons of drink specials and endless amount of hip-hop action. So don’t snooze on this mid-week party.


Two of today’s biggest pop stars battle it out on stage at Empire in Portland tonight for this week’s installment of the Clash of the Titans. Starting at 9:30 see if Bruno Mars’ Treasure is enough to Get The Party Started against Pink, or if his pop hits’ll blow up in his face like a Grenade in Pink’s own Funhouse. (I bet y’all didn’t know I could throw down with the Top 40 crew did ya?) This evening’s show should be a lot of fun, so check it out if you’re looking to get your hit song singalong on.
