Party down at Bayside Bowl with El Grande, The Pubcrawlers & The Outsiders tonight

Holy mothahuggin’ Hot Pockets, this has felt like the longest week in the history of The Nunz (so long that I’ve reverted to talking to about myself in the 3rd person…). I have had Friday on my mind since Sunday evening, so I am overwhelmingly glad to welcome another weekend. Here’s what’s happening around town and beyond for your finally Friday.

Local blues rockers, The Renovators will be laying down some enticing tunes as they hit the stage of Blue on Congress Street in Portland this evening. Check out this free show as things get underway right around 6 o’clock tonight.

Local Sprouts on Congress Street in Portland presents a free Friday night show for you as Pip Walter and Jenny Van West join musical forces as The Bloomers to play acoustic songs filled with voices, guitars, and fiddles. Tonight’s event gets underway at 7.

Check out some pure, eccentric hip-hop courtesy of Caro Khan, Flowpez, Perspective and Shadow Rhythmic as this team of talented musicians take to the stage for a show down at Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge on Preble Street this evening. Heading nodding melodies and unique rhymes get started right around 8 tonight.

If you’re in Biddeford tonight, check out The Oak and The Ax’s new live arts and music series,  TAPE HISS at its debut this evening. The show stars live music from Lonesome Leash, a performance from Holly D’Anger, and an interview portion with Banded Horn Brewery. Get there at 6 for a beer tasting from Banded Horn Brewery as well as live music from ShaShaSha’s Dominic Lavoie. The show will be taped, edited, and released next month, so check it out.

Grammy Award winners Tinariwen take to the stage of Port City Music Hall in Portland this Friday to play their cross-cultural bluesy rock. UK afro-folk-pop act, The Melodic will open things up as tonight’s show gets underway right around 8.

Freak out on your finally Friday with a show brimming with the best local ska, punk, and rockabilly around over at Bayside Bowl in Portland. Starting at 8 you can check out sets from The Pubcrawlers, The Outsiders and El Grande.

Down south, at the Music Hall in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, the supremely talented indie folk-rocker, Josh Ritter makes a stop in town for a night of terrific tuneage as things get underway right around 8 o’clock this evening.

You can also join Okbari Middle Eastern Ensemble for an evening of music from the Middle East and Turkey at Frontier in Brunswick. The Ensemble will present instrumental and vocal music from Syria, North Africa and Arab/Berber Spain  and the classical instrumental and vocal music of late Ottoman Turkey. Okbari Middle Eastern Ensemble performs on oud (fretless Middle Eastern lute), qanun (72-stringed Middle Eastern micro-tonal zither), nay (ancient Middle Eastern reed flute), vocals and Middle Eastern percussion. Tonight’s event gets started at 8pm.

Guthries in Lewiston welcomes The Portland Rhumba Project to their stage this Friday evening for some live music. Starting at 8, these fellas will be performing classic radio hits from Zimbabwe and beyond. It’s free, fun and there’s plenty of delicious food and drinks to be had, so be sure to check it out.

Grammy Award winner, Charles Neville of the Neville Brothers and Jeff Pitchell and Texas Flood will be bringing a taste of New Orleans’ blues to Jonathan’s in Ogunquit tonight. This talented group of musicians will be providing some stellar tunes to your weekend kick-off starting at 8 o’clock.

If you’re looking for some Friday night rock-reggae then check out a free show down at Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street in Portland where Brothers Donovan will be laying it down starting at 8:30.

Local Americana rockers, The ToneKings, who mix roots and soul sounds together for a delightful concoction of tunes, will be bringing the Friday funkiness to The Frog and Turtle on Main Street in Westbrook. Starting at 8:30 get ready to enjoy some great food, drinks, folks, and music all with absolutely no cover charge!

Get down to Flask Lounge with your March Madness as Che Ros presents “Ball Out”, a dance party for all featuring Che Ros, DJ Mom, Mike Clouds, and KTTN MTTNZ. Tonight’s free event gets crankin’ right around 9 o’clock

Travis James Humphrey and the Retro Rockets will be packing ‘em in down at Gingko Blue on Fore Street in Portland tonight. Starting at 9, Travis leads this blues and swing 3-pack through classic and original jams that are certain to get you grooving this Friday.

Up in Freeport you can check out a good time happening at Buck’s Naked BBQ where Captain Ray and the Castaways will keep you dancing all Friday long with some rock and/or roll. This free party starts at 9:30,so check it out if you’re in the area this evening.

Big Ol’ Dirty Bucket is ready to make you shake your money maker as they blow up the stage of The Widowmaker Lounge at Sugarloaf this Friday with some straight up funk. Things get shakin’ right around 9, so stop by and bust a move or two if you’re in the area this evening.

Nikki Hunt and her Band will be rockin’ the Easy Street Lounge in Hallowell this finally Friday. This energetic act will be kicking things into high gear starting at 9 o’clock, so check it out if you’re in the area this evening.

If you’re up in Bangor tonight be sure to check out Trisha Mason and The Whiskey Rebellion at Paddy Murphy’s as they serve up some crowd-pleasing covers as well as catchy originals starting right around 9 o’clock.

If you’re looking to get down to some good tunes tonight get up to Sea Dog Brewing Company in Topsham where Andi Fawcett and company will be getting the party started right around 9 o’clock. Andi Fawcett and her band will be bringing you the best original pop rock tunes around, so grab a beer and shake your can this evening.

Jacob McCurdy and Danny Rand will be live downstairs at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port this evening with some acoustic cello and guitar. The duo will be playing covers of Weezer, The Pixies, Sublime and everything in between starting right around 9:30. Upstairs, you can put a little dip in your hip with funk band Mama’s Boomshack as they also play a free show this Friday. These masters of fun and funk will get the party hoppin’ right around 9:30 as well.

Get ‘er doing tonight (WHAT AM I EVEN SAYING?) with some of the best tunes the 90s ever had to offer from such bands as Sublime, Blink 182, the GinBlossoms, Everclear, No Doubt and even Chumbawumba (yes, Chumbawumba) over at RiRa on Commercial Street where Hello Newman will be priming the party right around 9:30.

If you’re in dire need for some funk and soul for your funk and soul hole then fear not as the Kenya Hall Band will be killin’ it on stage all night long up at Mainely Brews in Waterville. Things get fresh and awesome starting around 9:30.

One of my favorite mid-coast prog-rock bands, The 220s, returns to Portland tonight with a show at The Big Easy on Market Street. Check out this trio of insanely talented dudes as they get the party started at 9:30 this finally Friday.

Upstairs at the Empire on Congress Street in Portland you can check out The Penthouse Dance Party featuring the very best underground house, techno and dance music courtesy of DJs Ed Garrison, Marcus Caine, Christopher Gauthier, and Ian Hammond. Tonight’s party gets crankin’ right around 10.
