Ogre celebrates the release of a new record at Geno's tonight

I guess if I were going to hand out any advice on this finally Friday, I would say go hard or go home because there’s a whole helluva lot happening tonight and it’s looking like tomorrow will definitely be more of the same. Remember to hydrate and to also eat food before, during, and after consuming adult beverages.

It’s no secret that the women of Portland (and beyond) know how to rock and tonight the Maine Academy of Modern Music celebrates that fact with a special Girls Rock event hosted by Bayside Bowl in Portland. Starting at 6 o’clock MAMM invites you to take in some sounds from their talented young female artists as well as a special performance from local songstress Anna Lombard. Tonight’s show is all ages, so bring the kiddos to rock out.

Local down-home Americana folk duo Silent Sam and the Evans will be performing at a free show at Local Sprouts on Congress Street in Portland. Tonight’s event gets underway right around 6:30.

Port City Music Hall in Portland welcomes Boston-based rock act Richard James & The Name Changers to the stage Friday. The piano-driven band specifies their genre as “whiskey-infused roots rock and roll.” Brooklyn power funk band Turkuaz will kick things into high gear tonight with an opening set that gets crankin’ right around 8 o’clock.

Frontier in Brunswick welcomes musician Mieka Pauley to the stage this Friday. Mieka Pauley possesses a voice that flows like good whiskey and a frankness that makes Alanis Morissette look shy. She conjures the same masterful command as Ani DiFranco with driving melodies that stand alongside the work of Michelle Shocked, Neko Case and Emmylou Harris. Local singer-songwriter Christian Cuff opens things up with some new songs alongside his stella band tonight. They’ll get things underway right around 8 o’clock.

Down at Elements in Biddeford you can take in some psychedelic folk sounds as local act Old Soul takes the stage this evening. Tonight’s free show gets underway right around 8 o’clock, so swing by if you’re In the area this Friday.

Outlaw country cover band Nouveau Redneck teams up with Shanna Underwood and Wanderlost for a night of great music down at Bayside Bowl in Portland this Friday evening Anticipate lots of good times, good tunes, and good people as things get swinging around 8:30 this evening.

The Slackers will be rocking steady at the Dover Brickhouse in Dover, NH tonight as they fill your friday with their tried and true sound of ska, reggae, dub, soul and garage rock. Tonight’s show gets underway right around 9 with opening sets from A Minor Revolution and Laid to Dust.

It’s probably not much of a surprise or really new newz that one of my all-time favorite local acts is Dominic and The Lucid. I used to make the trek from my apartment that sat on a used car lot (classy) in Arundel to see their shows by myself long before I moved to Portland. There’s something about the range of their tunes that varies anywhere from sunshiny pop to straight up psychedelia that has always endeared them to me. Needless to say, I was pretty bummed out when they decided to take a break from making music together. But alas, the time has come for nerds like me to rejoice as the fellas take to the stage of the Empire in Portland to play their first show in nearly two years. They’ve reserved the entire evening to play music from all of their records, as well as perform some brand new material alongside a smorgasbord of special guests. Come get weird, do good and dance the night away as things get started at 9 o’clock this Friday.

Things are going to get loud, heavy and super duper awesome at Geno’s in Portland tonight as Ogre celebrate the release of their new record, The Last Neanderthal with one helluva show this Friday. Newly reunited rockers Eldemur Krimm and prog-rock superstars Sunrunner will also be on hand to thoroughly melt faces as things get started at 9 o’clock tonight.

North of Nashville will be rocking up at the Matterhorn Ski Bar at Sunday River this Friday. Starting at 9, expect lots of pickin’, guitar slingin’, singin’ and boot stompin’ to go down. Jay and Andrew bring their love all of all things country & western to life this evening with a free show that’s always a ton of fun.

Local musician Brian Patricks will be playing a mix of blues and rock n’ roll hits as he covers such artists as John Prine, Tom Petty, Eric Clapton, James Taylor and more for tonight’s free show up at Casa Del Luna in Lewiston. Groove out this Friday starting at 8.

Blue on Congress Street in Portland invites one and all to to come and warm up with some authentic Cajun tunes as they welcome Acadian Aces to the stage right around 9 this Friday. The Aces will be serving up classic Cajun/Acadian music all night long during this free show.

The Poprocks will be partying down this Friday with a show at Pedro O’Hara’s in Lewistong. Check out these dudes as they deliver hits from pop, rock, country, and everything in between as tonight’s shindig gets started at 8:30.

An excellent show of indie folk rock will be happening down at The Oak and The Ax in Biddeford tonight. Starting at 8 o’clock you can take in opening sets from local act Lisa/Liza as well as The Orchards. Headlining tonight’s event will be avant-garde bassist, Nat Baldwin, who is known for his work in the Dirty Projectors as well as being a contributor to albums by Vampire Weekend, Grizzly Bear and more.

Right around 8 o’clock you can check out some good eats and tasty tunes at The Frog & Turtle on Main Street in Westbrook as Pete Witham & The Cozmik Zombies will be taking over the stage with their own brand of twisted Americana/rockabilly. Tonight’s show is certain to be fun and completely free, so be sure to check it out if you’re kickin’ in The ‘Brook this Friday.

Starting at 9 o’clock at the Big Easy Lounge & Cafe in Bangor the John Nowak Quartet will be playing some jazz favorites at a free show that is sure to fire up your Friday.

Looking to show the dance floor a lot of love tonight by busting a move or two to some of the smoothest house grooves around? Then take a trip down to Flask Lounge in Portland tonight where Mr. Dereloid and special guests Robbie Huggs and Jack MF will be joining forces for a solid four hours of good vibes and good tunes. Do it to it and bust some moves as this free dance party gets underway right around 9 o’clock

Sly-Chi are geared up to get the party started down at Brian Boru in the Old Port tonight. This super fun live act gets going right around 9:30 and will be bringing the funk all night long with their unique blend of jazz and funk that is certain to make you shake a tail feather or two.

The Dapper Gents are ready to rock out some fun folk-pop at upstairs at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port tonight. Grab some friends and enjoy some tunes starting right around 9:30. There’s never a cover charge, so stop by and check things out!
