Line of Force and Sorcha & the Clearing perform live at One Longfellow Square tonight

Written by: Holly Nunan

I’m a terrible liar so therefore I’m just going to be straight up with you guys and let you know that Monday was a bit of a mess for me. I don’t really feel like I accomplished much of anything and what I did do was overshadowed by my own inability to not be completely, absurdly awkward around other human beings, sooo I’m just gonna chalk that one up to residual wet brain from the weekend and do all I can to bring my true A Game to tonight. This evening’s shaping up to be quite the party, so shimmy into those Party Jorts and get down on it this Tuesday!

Captain Ray & The Castaways are set to get the party started out on the deck of Portland Lobster Company on Commercial Street this Tuesday evening. Starting at 6 let these fellas rock and roll you during tonight’s free, all ages show.

Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street in Portland will be offering up some acoustic, old school Louisiana blues as they welcome the fellas of Poor Howard to the stage this Tuesday. This free show gets started right around 6:30.

Nick Poulin, of local indie folk-rock act Tall Horse, resumes his role as open mic extraordinaire for this week’s installment of The Exchange at The Thirsty Pig on Exchange Street in the Old Port. The Exchange is an open mic that’s accessible to any and all musicians who are looking to showcase, workshop and even collaborate on their own original material in front of an audience. All genres, ages and musical capabilities are welcome to join in on the fun as this free event starts up outside on the Thirsty Pig patio right around 7 o’clock.

Take on Tuesday with a little punk rock with a show down at Mathew’s on Free Street in Portland. Starting at 8, Nandas, Ivy, Gout and BABE will be rockin’ and rollin’ all night long.

One Longfellow Square’s Live & Local music series continues this Tuesday in Portland as the venue welcomes two acts that put the fun in funky to the stage for this week’s show. Starting at 8 o’clock, take in the dirty funk and smooth grooves of Line of Force alongside the hip blues, jazz, rock and latin rhythms of five-piece act Sorcha & the Clearing. This will be an exceptionally entertaining night of inventive instrumentalists, rich harmonies and vivacious soul, so don’t miss out!

As many of you are probably aware, the wonderful space known as The Oak and The Ax on Main Street in Biddeford will be closing its doors in October. Now is the time to take in some incredible, unique and fun music in this beautiful and intimate space. Tonight you can check out the psych-punk and funky soul sounds of Plastic Crimewave Syndicate, Viking Moses and Spenking as the acts take to the stage starting at 8 o’clock.

Local picker Jon Cooper and a few of his musically inclined friends will be coming together once again to make some sweet Americana sounds as Chicken Wire at Otto’s lower Congress Street location. Check out the act’s unique brand of acoustic tunes while enjoying some of the tastiest pie in town as things get underway right around 8:30.

Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port hosts another acoustic open mic night as Jacob McCurdy, lead vocalist of Portland folk-pop act The Dapper Gents, emcees this free Tuesday night party. Jacob welcomes all musicians to the stage to show off their skills as things get underway right around 9 o’clock this evening.

Flask Lounge in Portland is ready for another open mic event that is designed specifically for DJs and producers. Tonight’s free dance party gets started at 9 and allows up-and-coming record spinners to take a chance up on the decks. All you need to participate are some records, CDs and controller and all formats of music are welcome, so stop on by and check it out this Tuesday!

Take in some experimental jazz jams from local act Jaw Gems over at Local 188 on Congress Street in Portland this Tuesday. Grab some pals and chill out to some awesome sounds starting at 10 o’clock. Tonight’s show is free, fun and guaranteed to be filled with good times, good tunes, and good vibes, so check it out.
