Leon Russell & Hot Tuna live at the Waterville Opera House tonight

Written by: Holly Nunan

That was one helluva weekend and even though Monday has been kickin’ my butt today, I will not admit defeat. Instead I will hike up my Party Pants a little bit higher in order to get the good times rollin’. Here we go!

Down at the Portland Lobster Company on Commercial Street in Portland you can enjoy some fantastic live music out on the patio as local act the Delta Knights kick out some R&B, blues, soul, funk, swing, rock, jazz and more at this free and fun event. The fellas will be getting the party started right around 6 o’clock this Monday evening.

This Monday you’ll find local pop-rocker Michael Krapovicky hosting another free open mic night up at Pedro O’Hara’s in Lewiston. Play some tunes, or just take in some fantastic live music courtesy of some talented local musicians, as things get started at 6:30 tonight.

Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street in downtown Portland welcomes local indie rock artist Caleb Orion to their stage for a free, live acoustic set that gets underway at 7 this Monday.

You can also check out some free live music at MJ’s Wine Bar at One City Center in Portland as MJ’s, which features a bunch of great wines and spirits, will be hosting another jazz, funk and soul night that is open to any and all musicians to sit in and play with the house band. Local players Kyle Friday, Jacob Cooley, Tony Palumbo, and James Finison make up MJ’s house band and they’re all always welcome to having other musicians come up and play with them, so stop on by and have a listen, or even get up and play, as things get underway at 7 o’clock this Monday evening.

Even more in the way of open mic action will happening down at the Kerrymen Pub in Saco. Starting at 7:30 both solo musicians and full bands are encouraged to take the stage and play some music in front an audience of fellow musicians and music lovers alike. The event boasts no cover and is certain to be a great way to ease into another working week.

One of my favorite artists, who has made music as a session man, sideman as well as an illustrious solo artist will be performing live at the Waterville Opera House tonight. Soulful rock n’ roll piano man, Leon Russell will be at the Opera House, most likely performing new material from his latest record, Life Journey, alongside special guests Hot Tuna tonight. Things get underway right around 8, so if you’re in the area make sure you check out this sure-to-be awesome show.

Some free Monday night music action will be happening over at RiRa on Commercial Street in Portland where yet another installment of Evan Walsh aka EvGuy’s open mic series takes place this evening. Each and every Monday EvGuy hosts his own version of what he playfully calls an adult talent show starting right around 8 o’clock. Instruments are provided and if you can’t actually play one, EvGuy will be more than happy to bang out a singable version of a song for you to rock out to.

There’s no need to feel blue because it’s Monday, instead celebrate the fact that you made it through the whole day unscathed with some bustling bluegrass and delicious pizza down at Otto on Congress Street in Portland where Joe Walsh and a few of his friends will be providing a mighty fine soundtrack to your evening starting at 8 o’clock.

Work it on out down at Flask Lounge in Portland this Monday at their Unknown Pleasures dance party. Starting at 9 shake it out to some of the best post-punk, synth-pop, new wave, and goth-industrial jams at this absolutely free party!
