Lady Essence & Shane Reis bring the thunder to Rap Night at The Asylum

Oh Cheesus Crust, I am very happy that we’re halfway through this week. I don’t know what the what is, but I can’t seem to fully get it together and am counting down the moments until the weekend arrives. Thankfully there are a bunch of awesome things going down tonight to help me cope with own shortcomings. Here’s what’s shaking this Wednesday.

Jazz up your Wednesday with a show at Gingko Blue on Fore Street in Portland where Standard Issue will be playing all of the classics from the Great American Songbook. Tonight’s gig gets underway right around 7 and is absolutely free, so swing on by, have a cocktail, and enjoy some golden era tunes.

Every Wednesday evening local blues act Poke Chop and the Other White Meats host a blues jam at The Big Easy on Market Street in Portland. If you’re a player, come to play; if you’re a blues lover, come to listen, to dance, to hang out in a friendly down-to-earth atmosphere and hear some of the best blues around without a cover charge. Things get started at 7 o’clock.

Over at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port the Squid Jiggers will be returning to the stage for an evening filled with their own brand of folk music. The duo will get the good times rolling right around 8 o’clock this Wednesday evening, so stop by for some good music and good times as tonight’s show is free!

Brooklyn trio, Tumbling Bones rattles up some good times at the Portland & Rochester Public House down at Bayside in Portland this evening. Check out the fellas’ unique brand of Americana tunes as they play this free and fun show beginning at 8 o’clock.

Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge in Portland and local singer-songwriter Nick Poulin present some more open mic entertainment for your Wednesday. Starting at 8 you can sign up to play some songs or just enjoy some tunes courtesy of local musicians all during tonight’s free acoustic event.

The Little Tap House on Spring Street in Portland continues its acoustic music series with some tunes courtesy of local musician Ian Gans. Enjoy some free music courtesy of this pop-rocker as things get started around 8 tonight.

More open mic action happens down at the Frog and Turtle on Main Street in Westbrook this Wednesday as local rockabilly legend Pete Witham hosts tonight’s free event. Starting at 8 you can sign up to play some tunes and even check out Pete and his pals as they perform throughout the evening.

Lots of great sounds will be made at Port City Music Hall in Portland this Wednesday evening. Starting at 9 you can check out sets from Canada’s artful indie-pop rock act, Islands as well as Nashville duo Escondido and Portland’s own Foam Castles.

Rap Night at The Asylum is going to be slammin’ this Wednesday as they present showcases from Lady Essence & Shane Reis as well as Shameek the God. There will also be early and late open mic cyphers with DJ Thunder on the decks and ladies get in free! Dudes, it’s only $3 for you to get in on this quality hip-hop happening, so show up and enjoy some talented cats as they do their thing beginning at 9 o’clock.

Get your indie-alternative rock on this Wednesday at the Empire for this week’s edition of the Clash of the Titans as Wilco takes on The Shins. Members of Yes We Kin, Worried Well, and more come together to represent each band for this week’s battle, which gets underway right around 9:30.
