Please don’t get me wrong, I love Elvis Costello (surprise, surprise, right?), but if Welcome To The Working Week repeats itself one more time inside of my brain I might dissolve into a pile of tears. This has felt like the longest week of my life and I’ve certainly had Friday on my mind since at least last Sunday, so without further ado, let’s check out what’s shaking for this finally Friday edition of The Newz.
Cats Under The Stars, a Tribute to Jerry Garcia Band, returns to Portland tonight for an intimate showcase at One Longfellow Square in Portland this evening. Get ready to vibe out to the tunes of Jerry beginning at 7 o’clock this finally Friday.
Seed & Bean Wine Bar in Kennebunk opens up for the season with a performance from Portland’s own original act, The Coloradas, who will be performing their folk tunes that combine traditional bluegrass elements with a bit of blues for a set the gets underway right around 7:30 tonight.
The Poprocks are ready to party this Friday night with a rockin’ gig over at Altera Lounge in Lewiston. Starting at 8 o’clock check these fun lovin’ fellas out as they bounce around from decade to decade covering everything from pop, rock, country and everything in between.
WHSN presents the 10th Annual Acoustic Showcase for the National Multipe Sclerosis Society at the Gracie Theatre in Bangor tonight. Beginning at 8 o’clock you can help to support this great cause while also taking in some great music from The Other Bones, The Box Tiger, Beach The Whale, and Dustin Saucier. $10 at the door gets you into this incredible night of talent with all proceeds going directly to the Greater New England Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society so check it out if you’re in the area tonight.
Former Grand Hotel and Cosades frontman, Kyle Gervais releases his long-awaited solo project, KGFREEZE with an album release party for the record Sociopath at The Asylum in Portland tonight. The first release under Gervais’ new moniker will be celebrated tonight alongside Florida rockers Eagle Chief and the incredibly talented local songstress Kristina Kentigian. The party starts promptly at 8, so get there early and hang out late.
North of Nashville travels north of Portland (ah, I am so clever) for a night of tunes over at Billy’s Tavern in Thomaston. Tonight the fellas get together for some good times and good tunes that incorporate everything from country & western, Americana, to some good ol’ rock n’ roll. Check the duo out as the party gets underway around 8:30 tonight.
Things are going to get loud this Friday down at Mathew’s on Free Street in Portland as Big Meat Hammer, Kamikaze Angel, Thee Ice Picks, and Aly Kat take to the stage to make some noise beginning at 8:30.
Evan Casas is throwing a dance party over at Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge on Preble Street in Portland tonight and is evening bringing along his friends, The English Breakfast, for some fun. Evan will be playing drums, percussion, keyboards, bass, guitar, singing and using a sampler all at once to create a one-man-dance-band-jam followed by a set from The English Breakfast. It sounds like a helluva time to me and gets underway right around 9 tonight.
Friday might mean shaking what your momma gave you for some and if that’s the case for you, well then get on down to Flask Lounge on Spring Street in Portland where DJ Jamie O’Sullivan will be hosting his monthly LOVE event. It’s the best Drum and Bass night around O’Sullivan and special guest, Elusid, bringing you the best tunes via turntable to shake your can to. You can check it out starting at 9pm.
The Big Easy in Portland will be holding it down tonight with a soulful rock, rhythm & blues party that’ll also be offering up some country, funk, folk and anything and everything in between as two great local acts take to the stage for a tremendous night of tuneage. Starting at 9, you can check out sets from anna & the diggs and special guests Sorcha & The Clearing.
Geno’s Rock Club on Congress Street in Portland gets down and dirty this First Friday with some punk, folk-punk, and rock courtesy of The Dirty KBG, The Gut Truckers, and the Half Moon Jug Band. Things get crankin’ right around 9 tonight.
Brian Boru in the Old Port is serving up a free dance party this evening as they welcome Boston’s Lovewhip to the stage tonight. If you’re looking to get down to some electro disco pop then scooch your pooch on over to Boru’s right around 9:30.
