Jaw Gems jazz up Tuesday night with a free show at Local 188

It sort of feels like we’re taking the tiniest of baby steps toward the freakin’ weekend, but I promise you, we’re going to make it! Sometimes it’s just really hard to get back into the groove after Thanksgiving, but thankfully this Tuesday is geared up to help you let loose from the grind of working week. Here are the haps for this evening!

The Thirsty Pig in Portland is hosting a new weekly open mic called The Exchange. It’s an event for all musicians looking to collaborate, showcase and workshop their own original music. All ages, genres and abilities are welcome, so be sure to stop by and check things out as the music starts at 7.

Another week of Open Rounds takes place at Blue on Congress Street in Portland this Tuesday. Starting at 7:30 musicians can sign up to be a part of a 3 person round and pick a song to perform with the other two musicians featured in the round. These rounds are open to any one who enters, so if you’re looking to play some tunes with some other folks you should sign up and check it out. The evening will actually start with a featured set of songs courtesy of local act The Bloomers featuring Pip Walter and Jenny Van West on vocals, guitars and fiddle. This event is free, fun and a great way to network with other talented artists, so swing through and check it out.

Flask Lounge on Spring Street in Portland presents another open mic night for DJs, which allows up and coming record spinners to take a chance and get up on the tables during the event. All you need to bring are your records, CDs and controller. All formats of music are welcome. Tonight’s DJ open mic begins right around 9 o’clock and is absolutely free, so check it out.

Another freebie to check out is over at Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge as DJ Ponyfarm presents another entertainment-filled evening of karaoke. That’s right, if you’re looking to belt it out and be your own rockstar, you can do just that starting at 9 and with absolutely no cover charge.

If you wanna take some time out this Tuesday and chill out to some experimental jazz that mosey on over to Local 188 on Congress Street in Portland this evening where the Jaw Gems will be doing their thing from 10 o’clock until closing time.
