Here we go! It’s the first Monday in June and I’ve got high hopes for this week. If you’re ready to show Monday what’s up, here are some things to check out tonight.

Acoustic guitarist Sean Callaghan will be performing a free show over at Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street in Portland this Monday evening. Sean shares stories and songs starting right around 7 o’clock tonight, stop in and enjoy some live music if you’re kicking around downtown tonight.

MJ’s Wine Bar located at One City Center in downtown Portland presents another free Monday chock full of the best jazz, funk and soul jams around as they welcome back there jazz house band that’s made up of such talented local musicians as Jacob Cooley, Kyle Friday, Tony Palumbo and James Finison to perform. This group will be laying down some smooth sounds, but are also always welcome to having other musicians join them to jam out. Things get underway right around 7 and there’s never a cover charge. Stop in, enjoy some fine beverages, listen to some tunes or even play some yourself this Monday.

If you’re south of Portland and in the Saco area tonight, check out some entertaining open mic action down at the Kerrymen Pub where starting at 7:30 solo artists as well as full bands are encouraged to take the the stage and perform in front of an audience of music lovers and musicians. The event is always free and guaranteed to be a lot of fun, so swing through if you’re in the area tonight.

More open mic action to check out, but in the Portland area, happens at RiRa on Commercial Street where the always entertaining Evan Walsh will be hosting another installment of what he dubs ‘an adult talent show’ beginning at 8. EvGuy has instruments available for you to play and even if you can’t actually play anything, he’ll help you jam out a singable version of a song for you to perform. Grab some friends, drink some liquid courage and get ready to belt ‘em out at tonight’s free event.

Marcia Gallagher and Katie Daggett will be taking to the stage of Slates in Hallowell for a special acoustic performance this evening. The duo will be sharing stories and songs as this show gets underway right around 8 o’clock.

Enjoy some of the finest bluegrass and delicious pizza around as Otto on lower Congress Street in Portland welcomes back local picker Joe Walsh and his musically-inclined pals for a night of free music this Monday. Things get underway at 8 at this free event. Saddle up and grab a slice and take in some of the scene’s finest players all in this unique and relaxed setting.

Friends of local DJ Shauna Rae McCurry gather tonight at Flask Lounge in Portland to celebrate her life after her unexpected passing a couple of weeks ago. Tonight’s benefit will not only honor Shauna and her infectious spirit, but will also act as a way for the music community to raise money for her family. A $10 suggested donation at the door is encouraged to check out some local talent as Kid Ray, Mr. Dereloid, Dan Berard, and El Shupacabra with MC’s 22, Eyenine, Ill By Instinct, and Pensiv. Bring your dancin’ shoes and honor Shauna’s memory with a great group of people starting right around 9 o’clock.
