Gunther Brown plays Blue in Portland tonight

I hope you guys are as ready as I am to let your freak flag fly this Friday! There’s tons of great live and local tuneage to take in tonight so prime those pants for one helluva party. Here we go!

Get physical this Friday over at Bhakti in Motion on Brackett Street in Portland as they present an early evening of Buti yoga and live music. The one hour class Buti class is collaborating with local dirty-salsa, hip hop, funk, punk band El Malo to deepen your Buti vibration with moves set to rock your chakras. Get into the groove while getting a total body workout as things get rockin’ right around 6 o’clock tonight.

I’m not going to pass any judgments about how November 21st might be a wee bit early to light a Christmas tree, so instead I’ll just tell you that if you’re looking to get into the holiday spirit this Friday evening you should make plans to bring the family and friends up to LL Bean in Freeport for their tree lighting ceremony. The tree will be decked out with twinkling LED lights as Rob Caldwell and Caroline Cornish of WCSH’s 207 will be on hand to broadcast the event live on TV amongst the wonderful rockabilly sounds of Portland’s own King Memphis. Get ready to rock around the Christmas tree at LL Bean’s party hop as things get festive beginning at 6:30pm.


Local rock and roller, Riff Johnson launches his 2015 Riff’d Off Tour with a show at Millennium Ballroom in Palmyra this Friday. Starting at 7 Riff will be joined by special guests Stoned Audio, Meghan Clark, Fiscal featuring Explicit, Trisha Burke from the band Unwanted, Justin Cameron from Shatter Epiphany, and Endless Echoes for a party that’s bound to be a blast and a half, so check it out if you’re in the area tonight.


b.good in the Old Port presents an evening of local music as they welcome local songstress Clara Junken to perform a free set of tunes. Clara’s soulful, blues-infused rock tunes command audience attention and deliver enticing musical goodness to all ears in close proximity, so be sure to settle in, grab some locally made food, and enjoy some of Clara’s song selections as things get underway during tonight’s shindig starting at 7 o’clock.

If you’re looking to lasso up some good times then check out local country rock duo The Westenders as they perform a free show Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street starting at 7 this finally Friday.

Starting at 7 o’clock, Charlamagne’s in Augusta welcomes you to stop in and enjoy some original tunes from The Veayo Twins as the sisters touch upon such genres as country, pop, rock, jazz and more during tonight’s free, all-ages event.


Check out some great local talent at the Skybox in Westbrook tonight as they present an all acoustic showcase featuring performances from local artists like Todd William Orcutt, The Faulkingham Project, Scott Girouard, Rob Carlton and Budaka Jones. Things get started at 7 and will end with an open jam right around midnight.

Local act Fender Bender will be rocking Thatcher’s in South Portland this Friday with their energetic blend of classic rock, blues, jazz, country and soul. The four-piece will take to the stage starting right around 7:30 for tonight’s free show.


Shady Lady welcomes special guest musician Chuck Smith to join them tonight as they bring their fun blend of rock, pop, blues and funk to the stage of the Cage in Lewiston. The party gets crankin’ right around 8 o’clock.


Get your weekend geared up with some party tunes at RJ’s in South Portland where  local act Captain Ray and the Castaways will keep you dancing all night long with some classic rock and roll covers. This free Friday night shindig gets shaking at 8.

Get to Lebanon tonight to party with American Ride as the band busts out a ton of modern country covers at Trains Tavern this Friday. The boot scootin’, toe tappin’ and yeehawin’ starts up at 8 o’clock.


Elements on Main Street in Biddeford welcomes local artists Jenny Van West and Rodney Mashia for a night of  folk, acoustic soul and roots music starting at 8pm.


One Longfellow Square in Portland welcomes iconic folk duo Aztec Two-Step to the stage this evening for an intimate performance in the venue’s unique setting. Check out the pair’s interpretations of Everly Brothers and Simon & Garfunkel tunes as well as their own beloved originals as tonight’s show gets started at 8pm.

If you’re kicking off your weekend in Westbrook, make some moves to The Frog and Turtle on Main Street as local act Downeast Soul Coalition brings the boogie with a free show full of solid soul music as things get shaking at 8 o’clock.

Lots and lots of high-energy, hollerfolk, Americana, roots and bluegrass fun for your finally Friday, so check it out.


Fire up your Friday with a trifecta of great, local indie pop-rock tonight as Bayside Bowl readies themselves for an all-ages, free show featuring Forget, Forget, The Loose Canyons and Jargon Party. Starting at 8 anticipate everything from synth chamber pop-rock, to electro rock, surf rock and more.


If you’re looking to have your skull crushed in the most delightful way possible, I suggest checking out tonight’s show at Geno’s on Congress Street in Portland as Last Mercy Emissions and Grime Studios present an entire evening of doom metal. Starting at 9 get ready to bang your head to the sounds of Morne, Ramlord, Xiphoid Dementia, and Mugwort.


Central Maine pop-rockers, Tomorrow Morning will be playing the stage of The Speakeasy in Rockland this Friday. Tonight’s free show gets started at 9 and features the band’s funky and fun variety of cover tunes and original material.

The Brunswick in Old Orchard Beach is geared up for an eventful Friday featuring dance pop cover act Tickle. Things get shaking at 8:30 with a super party mix of some of the best music from today as well as some classic retro funk that’s guaranteed to get you out on the dance floor.

If you find yourself up in Hallowell tonight stop by Easy Street Lounge where The Whitefields get rockin’ by the river around 9 o’clock. Best described as a folk, funk and rock venture, the band is known for its strong vocal harmonies, wide range of styles and ability to have some freakin’ fun.


Another free and fun par-tay to check out happens at Bull Feeney’s tonight where starting at 9 o’clock Kilcollins will be pop-rockin’ the upstairs stage with an all night long with their own material as well as a plethora of dance-party-inducing covers.


The Dover Brickhouse in Dover, New Hampshire will be jumpin’ tonight as Boston roots rock and rollers Dressed For The Occasion team up with Portland’s own alt-country, Northwoods badasses The Mallett Brothers Band for one helluva hootenanny that gets kicked into high gear right around 9 o’clock.


Alter Igor will be rocking out The Kennebec Wharf in Hallowell with their blend of classic rock tunes tonight. The band will be playing everything from Nick Lowe to The Who and many, many more iconic rock n’ rollers as they get things underway right around 9 o’clock.


Black Cat Road is strutting their stuff on stage at Bray’s Brew Pub in Naples tonight. Check out their funky, soulful and rootsty blues tunes as tonight’s free show gets started at 9:30.


Steve Jones and The Work Trucks will be making some noise up at the Montsweag Roadhouse in Woolwich this Friday evening. Jones and his bandmates work together to blend elements of  rockabilly, country, old-time rock and roll, Americana, and roots to create some mighty fine sounds that are guaranteed to please. If you’re in the area be sure to stop through and have some fun as things get underway at 9:30.


A full-fledged Friday night of awesome Americana folk tunes with a dash of pop-rock will be blasting through Blue on Congress Street in Portland as Gunther Brown takes the stage for some songs and stories starting at 10 o’clock.
