Good tunes for a good cause with Kris Rodgers, Tall Horse & White Pine at The Asylum tonight

Ah yes, Thursday, the day of the week where you know you’ve almost made it to the freakin’ weekend! Thursdays are especially awesome as there’s always a ton of cool stuff to check out. So get things cranked into high gear and do it to it this evening!

If you’re up in the Bangor area tonight, get your Thursday started with some free jazz over at Paddy Murphy’s where the John Nowak Quartet will be playing some standards at this free show that gets underway right around 6 o’clock.

Central Maine pop-rock act, Tomorrow Morning will be holding it down up at the Old Mill Pub in Skowhegan tonight. Check out this fun act as they play a variety of both covers and originals starting at 6 this Thursday.

Local pop rock artist Michael Krapovicky will be playing some of his original songs at a free show up at Rooster’s in Augusta this Thursday evening. Get there early, hang out and enjoy some great live music as Michael begins playing right around 6 o’clock.

Another early evening show to kick start your Thursday will be happening over at The Stockhouse in Westbrook where starting at 6 o’clock you can take in some tunes courtesy of Now is Now. This local alternative rock band will keep you grooving on into Thursday night with their fun mix of covers and catchy originals.

Up at the Lithgow Library in Augusta , the exceptionally talented and equally lovely Sara Hallie Richardson will be putting on a special acoustic performance at tonight’s free event hosted in the Reading Room right around 6:30.

Local electro soul-rock act The Other Bones is out on a mini-tour this week as with Chicago indie rockers Ace Reporter and will be making a stop down at The Thirsty Moose Taphouse in Portsmouth for some good times and good tunes starting at 7:30 this evening.

An awesome evening of music and fun is happening at The Asylum in Portland tonight where three terrific local bands will join forces to raise money for the Special Olympics of Maine. Starting at 8 o’clock check out the piano-driven rock n’ roll of Kris Rodgers & The Dirty Gems alongside indie rock acts Tall Horse and White Pine. Tonight’s event will be hosted by the handsome and hilarious comedian Travis Curran and all proceeds from the $10 cover will go directly to benefit the Special Olympics of Maine.

Local folk musicians Max Garcia Conover returns to his old stomping grounds of the Dogfish Bar & Grille on Free Street in Portland this Thursday. Max cut his teeth as a performer when he first moved to the city by partaking in weekly open mics. He returns to the stage for a free show that gets underway at 8 that’ll be chock full of his own engaging original material.

Gingko Blue down in the Old Port is geared up for some stellar sounds courtesy of local act Octane. Octane is a group of musicians brought together by Mike James Hayward to recreate jazz and swing standards through Hayward’s own unique interpretation of the genre. There’s never a cover charge so check things out as the music gets underway right around 8 tonight.

Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street in downtown Portland welcomes local indie artist Caleb Orion to their stage for a free, live acoustic set that gets underway at 8 o’clock this Thursday evening.

The Bridge Street Tavern in Augusta is prepped for some acoustic jams with local musician Matt Fournier. Starting at 8, you can check out an unplugged set of songs from Matt at this free show.

One Longfellow Square in Portland welcomes three truly talented artists to their stage this evening for a night full of folk, Americana, jazz, pop, and country as each of these musicians brings their own brand of awesome sounds to life. Beginning at 8 o’clock you can take in music from Sorcha, Connor Garvey, and Jenee Halstead.

Mathew’s on Free Street in Portland will be bumping tonight with some breakcore, digital hardcore and power electronics brutality as Divtech, Decide Today, Phallus Uber Alles and Erroraeon take the stage right around 9 o’clock tonight.

ShaShaSha’s Dominic Lavoie will be laying it down at Sonny’s in the Old Port tonight as he performs a solo set of songs that get underway at 9. Grab a fancy drink and let Dom serenade you during tonight’s free performance.

Local act Kilcollins will be pop rockin’ throughout your Thursday with a free show over at RiRa on Commercial Street in downtown Portland. Starting at 9 this group of talented musicians will be busting out all sorts of songs that you know and love as well as some of their own original material.

Local bluesmen Samuel James and D. Gross team up to bring you a night of acoustic music over at Blue on Congress Street in Portland. Starting at 9 this talented duo will be singing some songs, plucking some string and sharing some stories to help you thoroughly enjoy your Thursday evening, so check it out.

The Alan Evans Trio, a soul-rock organ trio featuring Alan Evans of Soulive on drums, Beau Sasser on organ and Danny Mayer on guitar are ready to freak out in Portland this Thursday as they play a show at Empire on Congress Street. Tonight’s party gets started at 9:30pm.

If you’re south of Portland and hanging out new near Newmarket, NH, do not miss tonight’s show with Brooklyn power funk act Turkuaz who will be tearing it up onstage at The Stone Church. Things get started at 9:30 so plan on a party and get your tush down there tonight if you’re in the area.

The dudes in Hello Newman celebrate four years of playing party anthems together as Portland’s premier 90s alternative rock cover band with a huge blow out bash upstairs at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port tonight. Starting at 9:30 get ready to join these fellas for a free show that will feature all of your favorite jams of yesteryear; anticipate lots of good times, good tunes and good people.

Thursday night means it’s about that time for Vinyl Tap to bring the thunder down to Gritty’s in the Old Port with their delightfully danceable covers that range from Huey Lewis to Cee Lo Green, The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Charlie Daniels, Elton John  and everything in between. There’s never a cover charge and plenty of beer, so check it out starting at 10 tonight.
