Get up to get down at Gritty's with Vinyl Tap

Thursday is doing its best once again to try and disguise itself as part of the weekend, especially considering the massive amount of awesome things to do and see this evening. So pace yourself and get it going this Thirstday.

Start your Thursday evening off with some beautiful sounds courtesy of Sorcha & Jo at Blue on Congress Street in Portland as the duo of ladies team up with special guests Theresa Hartford and Bethel Steele for some banjo, cello, and guitar based roots/bluegrass tunes that also incorporate some sweet jazz-infused harmonies. Things get underway right around 7 o’clock tonight.

If you find yourself up in Augusta tonight be sure to check out the Bridge Street Tavern’s first ever Thursday Acoustic Showcase with Matt Fournier. Starting at 7, you can check out unplugged sets from local artists such as Jenni Plum, Michael Krapovicky, Jerad Smith, Sierra Carey and more. It’s free and sure to be a lot of fun, so stop on by if you’re in the area this Thursday evening.

Northern Maine’s acoustic guitar slinger Travis Cyr visits Saco this evening for a performance at the Run of the Mill. Beginning at 8’clock, Travis will play some of his best tunes, stomp his feet, sweat a bit and break some strings – all in all it sounds like a mighty good time, so stop by and check out this free show if you’re south of Portland tonight.

If you’re looking to laugh out loud, for real, this evening then head on down to The Asylum in Portland for the kick off of Season Two of Local Laughs hosted by WBLM’s Brett Groh. Starting at 8, check out some laughable local comedians such as Matt Aromando, Ted Pettingell, Matt Kona, Tim Hofmann and Joe Timmins as they get ready to tickle your funny bone for free as there’s never a cover charge for this comedic extravaganza.

If you’re hanging in Westbrook this evening swing by The Frog & Turtle where local acoustic duo Uke n’ Smile will be doing their thing this evening. Starting right around 8, the fellas will be playing some acoustic jams to get your Thursday evening started right. It’s a free gig, there’s terrific food, and boozy drinks, so check it out if you’re in the area this evening.

Bust out some sweet dance moves and your favorite hula hoop and get ready to mellow your mind down at The Big Easy in Portland for another fun time with the one and only Band Beyond Description. Far more than just your typical Grateful Dead cover band, these fellas will jam out accordingly on everything from the Allman Brothers, Phish, The Band and much more. Anticipate good times, good tunes, and good peeps beginning right around 9 o’clock.

Mathew’s on Free Street in Portland is gearing up for a night full of rock and alternative covers and originals from local act Zealous Bellus. The fellas are ready to rage the night away starting at 9.

Local pop-rockers Kilcollins play their regular Thursday night gig down at RiRa on Commercial Street in Portland. This thirsty Thursday the gents will be rockin’g all the tunes you know and love with some catchy originals mixed in for good measure starting right around 9:30.

Vinyl Tap is ready once again to get up to get down this evening over at Gritty’s in the Old Port with their decidedly danceable cover tunes that range from everything such as Cee Lo, Huey Lewis, The Beatles, Stevie Wonder and more. There’s never a cover charge and plenty of beer, so check it out starting at 9:30.

The 80s and 90s alternative dance party of the week makes way for another swining party down at Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge on Preble Street in Portland where another entertaining edition of DJ Silverchild’s Hang The DJ busts out the jams starting right around 10. Get ready to work it to songs from The Cure, The Pixies, Morrissey, Bjork, The Offspring and many, many more.
