Get down to tonight’s Holiday Funkfest at Empire with Model Airplane

Written by: Holly Nunan

Happy Monday! If you’re looking to spread a little holiday cheer while taking in some great live music, here are some fun spots to hit this evening!

Local Sprouts on Congress Street in Portland welcomes you for a Monday evening filled with beautiful music as they present a free show featuring local folk songstress Lisa/Liza alongside Maine folk-noir act Methuin Muir and Northampton artists Mal Devisa and Wydeyde. Lots of interesting sounds will be conjured up during this all-ages event that gets started right around 6 o’clock this evening.

Drop by Pedro O’Hara’s in Lewiston this Monday as local pop-rock musician Michael Krapovicky hosts another of his weekly acoustic open mic nights this evening. This free event gets started around 6:30 and is open to any and all musicians looking to showcase their original material amongst friends, fellow music-lovers, and local artists alike.

Local singer-songwriter Justin Walton will be performing some acoustic tunes during a free show at Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street this Monday evening. Enjoy some great music, local brews and delicious food as things get started up at 7 o’clock.

If you’re hoping to check out some open mic action south of Portland tonight make some plans to stop into the Kerrymen Pub in Saco where starting at 7:30 both full bands and solo acts are encouraged to take to the stage and showcase their musical abilities during this free and fun event.

Reward yourself for surviving yet another Monday with some bluegrass and pizza at Otto’s lower Congress Street location. Local bluegrass picker Joe Walsh will be joined by a few of his friends as they team up to provide a mighty fine musical soundtrack for your Monday evening with a free show that gets underway at 8pm.

Model Airplane brings the holiday cheer and the spirit of the season to Empire in Portland this Monday evening as they host a Holiday Funkfest to raise money for the workers who currently on strike from FairPoint Communications. Tis the season, so help Model Airplane do some good while enjoying some of the funkiest, soul-stirring, seasonal jams around. With tons of great tunes and special guests like Kenya Hall, Adam Waxman, Joe Farrell and more, you really cannot go wrong. So show up, shake it out, and have some fun for this great cause as things get cranking right around 9 o’clock!
