Geoff Zimmerman celebrates the release of his new album at Blue

All right, it’s Thursday and everyone should be back in the swing of things by now, right? It’s time to lace up those rage (snow)shoes and pour yourselves into those Party Pants because this Thursday evening is ready to shake it on out!  There are quite a fe things to check out this evening that are certain to keep you warm and toasty all thirsty Thursday evening long, so let’s give ‘er an old look-see, shall we? Here we go!

It’s going to get mighty loud tonight over at 442 St. John Street in Portland as local hard rockers Swaath get ready to kick off their tour with a show tonight featuring Slyvia and Eastern Spell. Bust out the earplugs and get ready for some thunder starting right around 7 o’clock tonight.

Folk-rocker Brian Patricks is back at it once again this Thursday evening playing original songs coupled with cover tunes that everyone knows and loves as he gears up for a free set over at Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street in Portland. Beginning at 7 and right on through to the 9 o’clock hour you can check out some tasty tuneage courtesy of Mr. Patricks.

Singer-songwriter Geoff Zimmerman is back in town for a visit and tonight he gets ready to launch his brand new album Electropathy with a one night only solo show at Blue on Congress Street. Geoff is ready to celebrate with friends old and new so stop on by and check out this show that gets underway right around 7 o’clock.

Portland’s own twisted rockabilly heroes Pete Witham & The Cozmik Zombies return to Empire Dine and Dance on Congress Street for their Thursday night residency with a high-energy show downstairs that fires up right around 7:30.

Upstairs at The Empire this evening Portland’s own pop-rock glitter prince Dean Ford invites you to welcome the New Year with a dash of glam and a hint of grime as he plays alongside special guests GinLab and A Severe Joy for what is bound to be a epic dance party. Things get cranking right around 9 o’clock.

If you’re in need of some old fashioned, back porch style bluegrass tonight then look no further than The Dogfish Bar & Grille on Spring Street in Portland where the fellas in Tricky Britches are ready to make you stomp the night away with some good times and good tunes. The Tricky Britches start playing their free set right around 8pm this evening.

If you’re south of Portland tonight The Oak and The Ax invites you in to stay warm with some roots and Americana jams to stomp your feet and sing along to courtesy of Poor Old Shine, Jonah Tolchin, and Black Window Music. The good times starts rolling at 8.

Looking to bust out some dance moves with a band that is certain to mellow your mind? Then bundle up and shuffle on down to The Big Easy in Portland for this week’s installment of Band Beyond Description. Far more than just your typical Grateful Dead cover band, these fellas will jam out on everything from the Allman Brothers, Phish, The Band and more. Anticipate good times, good people, and a few hula-hoops starting right around 9:30 this evening.

Rock n’ roll piano man Kris Rodgers teams up with a group of talented dudes, the remaining members of the now defunct Velourosaurus to be precise, to bring you an evening full of awesome and exceptionally danceable cover tunes over at Gritty’s in the Old Port this thirsty Thursday evening. Beginniing at 9:30, Vinyl Tap plans to rock you everything from The Beatles to Stevie Wonder, Huey Lewis and more.

Local pop-rockers Kilcollins play their regularly scheduled Thursday night gig down at RiRa on Commercial Street tonight.  Starting at right around 9:30 these gents will be rockin’ and rollin’ to all the tunes you know and love, so check ‘em out.

Grab a nice hot todday and take in some experimental tonight down at Sonny’s on Exchange Street in the Old Port tonight where the Jaw Gems will be doing their thing from 10 o’clock until closing time.
