ESH the Monolith, Haze and more bring the ruckus to Rap Night at The Asylum tonight

Wednesday is packing it in something fierce! So many awesome things are happening all around tonight so why not celebrate being halfway through the work week by getting out there and getting your freak on? Here’s what’s shaking tonight!

A great early evening show to take in this Wednesday will be happening at Gather in Yarmouth starting at 6 o’clock where Pretty Girls Sing Soprano will be filling the space with beautiful sounds and songs. Enjoy some delicious dinner as the act performs their tight, clever and original harmonies.

Gingko Blue on Fore Street in the Old Port welcomes award-winning musician Jennifer Porter to the stage along with her musical counterpart Sonny Barbato for an evening of standards from the ‘20s through the ‘40s as well as some old school blues tunes. The duo gets things underway at this free event starting right around 7.

The Little Tap House on Spring Street in Portland continues its acoustic music series with some songs courtesy of local songstress Andi Fawcett. Usually you can check out Andi as she sings with Sly-Chi and Doubting Gravity, but tonight she goes solo with a set that gets started at 8.

Slainte Wine Bar & Lounge in Portland and local singer-songwriter Nick Poulin present some more open mic entertainment for you Wednesday. Starting at 8 you can sign up to play some songs or just enjoy some tunes courtesy of local musicians all during tonight’s free event.

Down at Bull Feeney’s on Fore Street the Squid Jiggers return to the stage with their own brand of folk music that’s perfectly paired with a tall pint of beer. Tonight the fellas will get the party started with a free show that gets underway right around 8 o’clock.

Ben Kilcollins will be hanging out at RiRa on Commercial Street in Portland tonight for some acoustic singer-songwriter action. Ben is a skilled musician who you’ll probably recognize from his time spent pop-rockin’ with his band Kilcollins. Tonight he goes solo with some guitar-based tunes starting right around 8:30.

Flask Lounge on Spring Street in Portland is prepared for a punk rock takeover as USA WasteAfghan and Gimme Goldar bring the thunder to your mid-week party with a night full of loud tunes and good times. Check out this free show as things get crankin’ around 9.

Brooklyn duo Break Science makes a stop into Port City Music Hall in Portland tonight with their blend of electro-bass and golden era hip-hop. Denver’s Paul Basic will kick things off with his instrumental, electronic hip-hop starting right around 9.

South of the border tonight you can check out some epic rock n’ roll as Red Sky Mary plays the classic Led Zeppelin II album in its entirety down at Fury’s Publick House in Dover, NH. Get some Led for head starting at 9.

Wednesday night means it’s time again for Rap Night down at The Asylum in Portland where you can check out some of the scene’s best emcees starting right around 9 o’clock. This week’s installment includes showcases from Boston’s ESH the Monolith as well as Boogie Boy Metal Mouth and Portland’s own Haze. There’ll be early and late night open mic cyphers hosted by ill by instinct with El Shupacabra on the tables all night long.

This week’s Clash of the Titans pits two alternative rocker chicks against each other as PJ Harvey goes head to head with Karen O and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs for this week’s musical battle at the Empire on Congress Street in Portland. Things get underway right around 9:30.
