Don’t miss The Fogcutters & Jacob Augustine at Port City Music Hall tonight

Oh my dear, beloved, Friday. I truly want to kiss you on the mouth and buy you a fancy drink. This week has totally crushed my soul and I am so ready to let loose and party down. So let’s bust out those weekend party pants and get to it, shall we?

If you are lucky enough to start your weekend a day early, here’s a couple of things, one, I’m extremely envious of you at this exact moment and two, you should probably make some plans to take in some free, live music on the patio of The Brunswick in Old Orchard Beach with the fellas of Kilcollins. These talented dudes will be teaming up to form a trio right around 1 o’clock this afternoon as they play some of their own pop-rock originals as well as some super danceable cover jams. There’s never a cover charge, so make some plans to party in the OOB this Friday afternoon!

A little later this afternoon you can enjoy your finally Friday with some Happy Hour tunes courtesy of local roots rocker Travis James Humphrey over at Dogfish Bar & Grille on Free Street in Portland. Starting at 5 o’clock Travis will be plucking some strings and singing some things to get your weekend started off on the right note.

Townsquare Media of Bangor and The Maine Edge have teamed up to bring a raging party to downtown Bangor this Friday evening as they welcome two of Maine’s top reggae bands to the stage of Tantrum for a night full of good vibes and good tunes. Celebrate the summer with Royal Hammer and Catchavibe as both acts will be joined by special guest throughout the evening. This event is guaranteed to be one helluva party with free admission until 8pm and a BBQ to boot, so check it out if you’re hanging in Central Maine this evening.


Get your face melted off tonight at Club Texas in Auburn as a Maine metal takeover starts right around 6 o’clock with Beyond The Fall, Mongrel, Centerlink, A Simple Complex and Kamikaze Angel. The Justin Sane radio show will also be broadcasting live with awesome door prizes and giveaways all evening long, so if you’re in the area, be sure to stop by and check things out. 


If you’re hitting the Old Port early this Friday evening be sure to make a stop at Portland Lobster Company on Commercial Street to check out the fiery, foot-stomping blues-folk of local act Muddy Ruckus who’ll be performing a free show out on the deck right around 6 o’clock.

Local down-home, Americana-folk duo Silent Sam and the Evans will return to Local Sprouts on Congress Street in Portland this Friday for a free, all ages show that gets swinging right around 7 o’clock.

The John Clavette Band will be raging out at The Porthole on Commercial Street this Friday where you can catch a night chock full of rock n’ roll jams as this free party gets grooving right around 7 o’clock.

Slab on Preble Street in Portland welcomes Tigerman WOAH! to the patio to liven things up this Friday with their gritty, punk-tinged rootsy bluegrass. Tonight’s free show is certain to be a helluva lot of fun, so be sure to swing through as things get pumping right around 7.

If you find yourself south of Portland tonight and in dire need of some high-energy rock n’ roll then make your way down to Champions in Biddeford where  Seacoast rock act Red Sky Mary will be blasting off right around 7 o’clock at tonight’s free show.


Primo Cubano will be spicing things up out on the patio of Bayside Bowl in Portland with their classic Cuban tunes during tonight’s free, all ages show that gets fired up right around 7:30.

If you’re in the Augusta area, check out a great evening of live, local music courtesy of two terrifically talented women at Charlamagne’s where starting at 7:30 you can join Heather Styka and Sorcha Cribben-Merrill for a full set of songs reflecting such genres as soul, rock, country, funk, folk and everything in between. Tonight’s event is free and all ages, so swing on by if you’re in the area.

Starting at 8 this Friday evening you can treat yourself to some delicious gastro pub fare while taking in some awesome live music at The Frog & Turtle on Main Street in Westbrook as Pete Witham & The Cozmik Zombies take to the stage for a free show filled with their own theatrical brand of twisted Americana and rockabilly tunes.


If you’re up in the Lewiston area tonight be sure to make some moves to Guthries for a free show featuring the original indie music of Builder of the House. This talented local act blends roots, bluegrass, and folk influences for a terrifically intriguing live performance, which gets underway right around 8pm this Friday.


If you’re in downtown Portland this evening, be sure to stop by Dobra Tea for a truly unique show at thisBohemian-style tearoom that serves and sells over 100 varieties of tea & tea drinks, light fare and desserts, with gluten and vegan options. Relax with a cup of tea and delicious snack as local artist Meghan Yates serves up some of her powerful vocals and inspiring songs during tonight’s free, all ages 8pm show.


If for some reason you’ve never seen the talent-laden, 19-piece big band known as The Fogcutters, please make some plans to get yourself down to Port City Music Hall on Congress Street this evening to witness this must-see, live show that packs a super punch with horns, a rockin’ rhythm section, crazy good vocalists and so much more. This veritable who’s who of incredibly talented musicians will be taking to the stage right around 8 o’clock to perform original material in the style of big bands of days gone by. Not only that, but special guest and beloved local folk artist Jacob Augustine will also be performing this evening during a solo set as well as with The Fogcutters. Truly this is a show not to be missed, so be sure you make some moves to check this one out. 


If you’re looking for some good times and good laughs this Friday, then go ahead and bust a gut with some of Portland’s most comical people at Local Laughs at The Asylum in Portland. Tonight, get your funny bone tickled by Doug Collins, Josh Day, Mark Turcotte and headliner Troy Pennell as local laugh legend Connor McGrath hosts this free event which gets underway right around 8 o’clock.


Mathew’s on Free Street in downtown Portland will be host to an awesome night of rock and roll sounds as An Anderson, Perfect Hair, Mount Gomery and Douglas Thomas take to the stage right around 8 o’clock this Friday evening. 


The Maine House on Water Street in Hallowell welcomes local Americana act Double Entendre to the stage for special acoustic performance that gets underway at 8 o’clock this Friday evening.

Local singer-songwriter Jordan Kaulback will be helping Mac’s Grill in Auburn celebrate 20 years in business by playing some free tunes at tonight’s anniversary party. Enjoy some good times, good tunes, good people, and good food as things get underway at tonight’s free, all ages shindig right around 8.


Second Wind Tapas Bar and Lounge in Southwest Harbor presents an evening of musical merriment and song with folk singer Jordan Jones. Jones free, all ages set gets underway around 8 o’clock.


Jonathan’s in Ogunquit welcomes Ben Taylor to the stage tonight for an awesome live performance that’ll get started right around 8 o’clock. Ben, who is the son of James Taylor, not only bears a striking resemblance to his pops, but also sounds a whole lot like him as well.


I know I keep repeating myself, but seriously if you get out and enjoy all of these wild August nights now you won’t be such a miserable wretch once we hit the dead of winter, so make sure you get your fill of outdoor fun this Friday by catching JB5 out on the Pier in Old Orchard Beach. This super fun local act will be bringing some live, high-energy hip hop to the stage of the Pier Patio Pub starting right around 9 o’clock.

Summer is still in full swing so soak it up while you can by jamming out with A Band Beyond Description up at McSeagulls in Boothbay Harbor this evening. Get your free Grateful Dead freak out on starting at 9 o’clock this Friday.

Check out the talented fellas of local act The Band Apollo as they play a free show at the one and only Easy Street Lounge in Hallowell this finally Friday. Beginning at 9, you can dance the night away to their sweet alternative pop-rock sounds.

Put a little glide in your stride this Friday evening up at Mine Oyster in Boothbay Harbor as Mama’s Boomshack will be funking things up with a free show starting right around 9.


Put on your Party Pants and get ready to celebrate 3 years of Foundation Friday down at Flask Lounge in Portland with the incomparable Mr. Dereloid and special guests Billa, A Dude Named Ray and the Psychologist This talented team of awesome DJs, producers and visual artists will be bringing you a full night of some of the finest underground dance music starting right around 9 o’clock.


Since KahBang went Kah-put, Empire in Portland has stepped up to the plate to help and fill the musical void by offering up a fun Friday evening of awesome indie pop from  Jaw-Ko, Stargroves and Nice Places. Things get cranking right around 9:30 this evening. 


Local act the Acadian Aces will back on the stage of Blue on Congress Street in downtown Portland as they serve up some authentic Cajun tunes starting right around 10 o’clock for your finally Friday festivities.
